Etc., if others see it, it will seem like pretending. The decline of enjoyment means: if food is little, there is hunger; if it is much, it is indigestible, etc., and it cannot be used for sensual pleasures. I also have not abandoned the suffering of old age. If I live long and grow old, I will eventually grow old. Meditate that all beings, such as relatives and friends, enemies and friends, are the same as this. This is the twenty-third contemplation. Thinking about the suffering of illness: There are other sufferings, due to past karma and immediate causes, various kinds of diseases arise. There are five sufferings: the increase of suffering and discomfort, which refers to the suffering of actual pain. The change in the nature of the body refers to the wasting of flesh, the drying of skin, etc. The two sufferings of not being able to enjoy pleasant objects and having to rely on unpleasant objects are that one cannot do as one pleases with food and behavior, and one must rely on unpleasant bitter medicine and fire treatments, etc. The separation from the life force means suffering from death or fear of death. Illness itself is a pre-reception of the suffering of death. I also cannot escape illness and will eventually become ill. My relatives and friends, etc., enemies and friends, all beings are the same. This is the twenty-fourth contemplation. There are other sufferings, the five sufferings of death are: separation from perfect enjoyment, separation from perfect foundation, separation from perfect retinue and friends, and also separation from the cherished and beloved body. Death itself is accompanied by intense suffering and discomfort. We will be separated from our deeply attached and cherished homeland, houses, wealth, the master above, the servant below, and all close friends, and we must die with the great suffering of severing life. Meditate in detail as explained in the previous discussion of the impermanence of death. This is the twenty-fifth contemplation. There are other sufferings, the suffering of seeking desires and not finding them. That is, in order to obtain enjoyment, strife, or small power, one throws oneself into strife without regard for life, or goes to distant places that take many years to reach, engaging in endless and cyclical activities.

Constantly entering. The blood of the feet becomes stone, the blood of the hands becomes trees, the spine becomes a horse, the rope becomes a whip, wanting to pull to the south but bending to the north, no wish is fulfilled. All hunger and thirst are endured, all heat and cold are overcome, day and night there is no rest. Flesh and blood are exhausted, working hard but even basic needs are not met. Efforts are in vain, and the heart feels discouraged. Furthermore, there is the suffering of encountering unpleasant people. Being controlled by enemies, or being attacked by disease and intense suffering, or encountering creatures that want to kill you, or falling into distraction, or being swept away by water, or hearing bad words, or being imprisoned and suffering punishment, and so on. There is also the suffering of separation from loved ones. Parents, siblings, family, friends, and so on, when separated from these indispensable people, unbearable suffering arises in the heart, and even the body deteriorates. Similarly, losing wealth, or losing dominion, or losing power, or whatever one cherishes and desires is damaged, great sorrow arises in the heart. Therefore, I too have not escaped these sufferings, and so on, meditate as before. Thus, these seven sufferings are also experienced by other beings, but because people mainly experience these, they are mentioned here. The eighth suffering, there is a way of thinking about it at this time, but it is better to explain it later. The twenty-sixth object of focus. Also, if one is born among the beings called Asuras, is it happy? It is not happy. Because they are naturally jealous of the glory of the gods, there is always great unease in their hearts. They fight with the gods from time to time, and because the power of the Asuras' merit is weak, they suffer greatly from being killed, beaten, dismembered, and so on. Most are on the side of darkness, so they do not like the Dharma. Even if some believe, they are obscured by karmic obscurations and have no chance to discern the differences. Then, if one is born as a god in the desire realm, is it happy? It is not happy there either, because they indulge in desires without restraint, and their lives are unknowingly exhausted. Furthermore, the weaker gods are driven from their homes by the stronger ones, causing suffering. Merit
