It is a medicine of various kinds, and there is no disease that it does not cure. Soon after, the king fell ill and summoned the doctor, saying, "I am suffering greatly from the disease, how can I be cured?" The doctor examined the king's illness and felt that milk was needed as medicine, so he said to the king, "If milk is used to treat the king's illness, then I will have become a liar who previously said that milk cannot be used as medicine. There is no better medicine than milk, and the king's illness is also caused by fever, so using milk as medicine is the best." The king said, "Doctor, are you crazy? You say that milk is good for fever? You said before that milk is poisonous, and now you want me to drink it, are you teasing me? The previous doctor said that milk is poisonous, so one doctor was driven away, and now you say that milk is the best medicine, so my old doctor must be more skilled than you." Then the doctor said to the king again, "King, don't say that. For example, the marks left by insects eating wood can also become letters, but the insects don't know whether they are letters or not. When a knowledgeable and wise person sees it, they will not be surprised and say that the insects understand letters. Great King, the previous doctor was the same, because he did not understand various diseases, he used milk for all diseases, just like the marks left by insects become letters. The previous doctor did not know the good and bad of milk and whether it could be used." The king said, "How could the previous doctor not know?" The doctor said, "The so-called medicinal milk is both poison and nectar. So, how can milk be both poison and nectar? If the cow only eats grass and grass, does not eat chaff, and the calf is very docile, and the place where it lives is not on a high mountain, but lives outside the village, drinks clear flowing water, is not driven away, does not live with the herd, eats and drinks freely, and the milk of a cow whose walking, sitting, and lying are very free is effective for various diseases.

Fresh milk is called nectar. Anything that is not that kind of milk is called poisonous. At that time, the great king, having heard that, said to the doctor: "Good, very good! Now I know the good and bad of milk and whether it can be used or not." After that, when milk was given as medicine, the disease was cured. He ordered all the people of the country: "From now on, give milk as medicine." When the people of the country heard that, they all cursed, saying: "Is this king possessed by a demon, or is he crazy, or what is wrong? He is deceiving us, telling us to give milk as medicine." All the people of the country came before the king in anger. Then the king said to them: "Do not curse me. Whether milk can be used as medicine or not is determined by this doctor, it is not my fault." At that time, the great king and all the people of the country were very happy and sang songs, and they showed even more respect and honor to that doctor. When milk was given as medicine to all the sick people, the disease was cured. Monks, you should also understand the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened one, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the knower of the world, the unsurpassed guide of beings, the tamer of men, the teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, in the same way. Like a great doctor, he came into the world, subdued all the doctors of heretical views, and said to all the kings: "I am a doctor." Saying this, in order to subdue the heretics, he said: "There is no self (Tibetan: བདག་མེད་དོ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: अनात्म, Sanskrit Romanization: anātma, Literal Chinese meaning: no self). There is no person (Tibetan: གང་ཟག་མེད་དོ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नो पुद्गल, Sanskrit Romanization: no pudgala, Literal Chinese meaning: no person). There is no sentient being (Tibetan: སེམས་ཅན་མེད།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नो सत्त्व, Sanskrit Romanization: no sattva, Literal Chinese meaning: no sentient being). There is no life (Tibetan: འཚོ་བ་མེད།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नो जीव, Sanskrit Romanization: no jīva, Literal Chinese meaning: no life). There is no powerful one (Tibetan: ཤེད་ཅན་མེད།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नो बलवत्, Sanskrit Romanization: no balavat, Literal Chinese meaning: no powerful one). There is no lord of power (Tibetan: ཤེད་བདག་མེད།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नो बलस्वामिन्, Sanskrit Romanization: no balasvāmin, Literal Chinese meaning: no lord of power). There is no knowledge, no action, and no agent." The Buddha said: "Monks, the self that the heretics speak of is like the writing left by a worm. Therefore, the Tathagata said that there is no self in the Buddha's teachings, this is to tame sentient beings, to know the time. Saying that there is no self is also because there are causes and conditions, so it is said that there is a self. Just as an experienced doctor knows whether milk can be used as medicine or not, a child does not..."
