It is the realm of practice, not that of others. This aspiration shows the fulfillment of that meaning. Therefore, it is the sole realm of practice for the noble ones. This is an intermediate verse. Among them, what is the perfect thought of the Bodhisattvas? It is encompassed in the eight thoughts of a great person. The Bodhisattvas diligently engage in those eight thoughts day and night. The summary of them is: removing suffering and wealth, the benefit of my body and entering the lower realms, fulfilling wishes and delivering from samsara, not desiring what is not beneficial to beings, and the eighth is the exchange of self and others. The first thought is: When will I be able to remove the suffering of all sentient beings? The second thought is: When will I be able to place poor sentient beings in great wealth? The third thought is: When will this body of flesh and blood accomplish the benefit of sentient beings? The fourth thought is: Even if I fall into the lower realms, when will I be able to benefit sentient beings? The fifth thought is: When will I be able to fulfill the wishes of sentient beings with worldly and transworldly wealth, that is, with miraculous powers, enjoyment, qualities, and so on? The sixth thought is: When will I become a Buddha and be able to deliver sentient beings from samsara? The seventh thought is: If great benefit to sentient beings does not arise, then even if it is an extremely perfect birth, conduct, and enjoyment, I do not desire it, and even the movement of a hair's tip and the interval of breathing in and out, when will I be able to do only what benefits sentient beings? The eighth is: May the sins and sufferings of sentient beings ripen upon me, and may my happiness and virtue arise in sentient beings. The root of the Bodhisattvas' aspiration is those perfect thoughts. Among them, the actual aspiration is not to be spoken in words, but in thought. Thus it is also said: The aspiration of the steadfast ones is with mind and desire.

At this time, regarding those eight places where one should make aspirations, constantly keeping them in mind and desiring to attain them is the actual aspiration. These are also clearly explained by this treatise, namely, the first thought of a great being, wishing for sentient beings to be without suffering and happy, as it says, "May all sentient beings in the ten directions always be without illness and happy." This is it. Second, desiring to obtain wealth, namely, the words of purifying the field and making offerings, and accomplishing all its activities completely. Third, benefiting the sentient beings of one's own body, namely, body, speech, and mind are also extremely pure, etc. Because if the three doors are practiced for the benefit of others, they will become pure. Fourth, even entering the lower realms, one can still accomplish the benefit of others, namely, acting in accordance with the conduct of sentient beings. This is it. Fifth, fulfilling the hopes of sentient beings, namely, the meanings of the Dharma for all beings, etc., up to everything being taught as my Dharma in words. This is in between. Sixth, liberating beings after attaining Buddhahood, namely, quickly going to the Bodhi tree king, etc., and manifesting many hundreds of millions of emanations, etc. Seventh, not changing in ultimate truth, namely, all the Buddhas who have passed away in the three times, etc., and others are also many by implication. Eighth, exchanging self and others, namely, how vast and in which directions the Buddha-fields are, in those places, one makes the suffering of the lower realms completely pacified, placing all beings in happiness, and also benefiting all sentient beings. This is how it is taught. Furthermore, the countless aspirations of the noble Bodhisattvas, ten hundred thousand kotis, are included in the ten great aspirations, and these are also in the Sutra of the Ten Bhumis of the Noble One, in the section of verses summarizing the meaning of the first bhumi, it is said thus: "For the sake of seeing the Buddhas, one makes aspirations manifest. Holding the true Dharma and approaching the upright, for the sake of the supreme conduct, one makes aspirations manifest. Maturing all sentient beings and purifying the Buddha-fields, that supreme field of his will be filled with all the Buddha-sons, because of being of one mind and in accordance with the meaning with the Buddha-sons, in all the pores of hair, the true meaning is manifest."
