Yes, but in reality, the number of aspects cannot be grasped, but in order to summarize the main meanings, and considering the wishes of the disciples to be tamed, it is known as one hundred and seventy-three aspects. The meaning of abbreviated meditation is: for example, considering conditioned phenomena as impermanent, and learning its selflessness, when clear appearance is obtained, considering contaminated phenomena as the aspect of suffering, and accomplishing its selflessness. When this is also obtained, holding both impermanence and suffering in mind at the same time, and also simultaneously accomplishing the clear appearance of selflessness, therefore, in just one moment of equipoise, with just one consciousness, one knows that all appearances of conditioned phenomena have the aspect of impermanence, and also knows that all appearances of contaminated phenomena have the aspect of suffering. When one sees that the two, conditioned phenomena and contaminated phenomena, as the basis, and impermanence and suffering, etc., as characteristics, are merely appearances, and are empty of inherent existence, then one is gathering the aspects of impermanence and suffering into one place and meditating, therefore it is called abbreviated meditation. The aspects of impermanence and suffering must not be cut off, for without them, one cannot meditate by gathering them together, and the many categories of aspects that have been spoken of would also become meaningless. Even if one does not understand how to settle that part of appearance on freedom from elaboration, one cannot practice Prajnaparamita merely with the aspects of impermanence and suffering, and one cannot touch reality, therefore, the reason why one must practice all general and specific aspects is like that. Here, the term "union" refers to the yoga of practicing meditation, and in this way, these also apply to other situations. The fifth thing is the union of the peak, which is called extremely perfected abbreviated meditation. The meaning of extremely perfected is very proficient and progressive. Among them, the complete aspect is from the abbreviated meditation of two aspects to the abbreviated meditation of all aspects, making the unobtained abbreviated meditation obtainable, and making the obtained abbreviated meditation not degenerate. And this peak union is from two aspects to all aspects, separately combining, so that the abbreviated meditation that has been obtained and does not degenerate, naturally arises because of being very proficient.

It is for the sake of entering (the profound), for the sake of accomplishing the qualities of that time and that time, and for the sake of expanding the light of wisdom through many different ways of understanding even one (object of meditation) such as impermanence. After meditating in this way, when such (states) manifest at that time and that time, it is called obtaining the peak union, and the path of union exists from the heat stage to the wisdom of the exhaustion of continuity. The sixth object, the gradual union, is that while not diminishing that condensed meditation, by learning various different stages, the continuous stream of increase becomes pure and very stable. For example, if the previous condensed meditation is practiced for one hour, then for about four quarters of an hour, the appearance of the mind free from elaboration, impermanence, suffering, etc., appears simultaneously. For sentient beings who do not understand in this way, one begins to meditate with a mind of compassion and generosity, and then for the same amount of time, one begins to meditate with a mind of discipline and renunciation, etc. Combine with the six perfections, the six recollections, and the thirteen aspects of non-reality. After becoming accustomed to this, such as meditating by combining the thirteen dharmas during the time of thirteen breaths. Gradually combine with the final thirteen moments, and finally combine with the infinite. This is training the skills of the first two unions, and the first two unions are meditating by condensing many different aspects into one, while this is learning to make each of those that have been condensed appear in many different aspects in each moment, so it is meditating by separating the aspects. So, is it because of separating that the aspects are reduced? No, it will become even more than before. For example, it has already been accomplished that one consciousness simultaneously manifests sixteen aspects, and again, without diminishing each of those sixteen aspects, all of them appear as one aspect of impermanence, all of them appear as one aspect of suffering, all of them appear as one aspect of emptiness, etc., shifting and meditating in each moment. The many previous aspects are also gradually learned to be combined with two aspects.
