Collection of Teachings by Tāranātha JT348 Commentary on the Heart Sutra of the Perfection of Wisdom: Unprecedented Excellent Explanation 17-405 ༄༅། །Commentary on the Heart Sutra of the Perfection of Wisdom: Unprecedented Excellent Explanation ༄། །The Sutra Section of the Prajñāpāramitā. Of the Heart Sutra of the Perfection of Wisdom, A Commentary: Unprecedented Excellent Explanation ༄༅། །Oṃ Svasti. Homage to the Blessed Mother, the Heart Sutra of the Perfection of Wisdom. A commentary called "Unprecedented Excellent Explanation." I pay homage to the Buddha! Possessing pervasiveness and eternal nature. To the Victorious One, the essence of great compassion. Having respectfully bowed down, I am delighted to explain a portion of the meaning of this sutra. Now, the name of this sutra is the Heart Sutra of the Blessed Mother, the Perfection of Wisdom. Among these, the term "Perfection of Wisdom" is as follows: As the venerable Asanga said, and as was also quoted by Dignāga: Wisdom and the Perfection are not two. That wisdom is the Tathāgata. That which is to be accomplished is joined with the meaning. In the texts, the word 'that' is used. Thus it is said. That is, the nature of the Perfection of Wisdom, the result of the Perfection of Wisdom, and the path of the Perfection of Wisdom. There are three aspects of the Perfection of Wisdom as the object to be expressed. The Sutra of the Perfection of Wisdom is the Perfection of Wisdom as the expressing words. There are four categories of the Perfection of Wisdom. Among these, the nature of the Perfection of Wisdom is the way things are for all phenomena, the wisdom free from elaboration, the dharmadhātu that has existed from the beginning. That is the basis upon which the term "Tathāgatagarbha" is applied. That very thing, without being connected to any reversing aspect of the ground, path, or result, when placed independently, is called nature. The abiding 17-406 reality itself is the Tathāgata, and is also the actual ultimate Buddha. When that is attained by an individual who has purified the two obscurations and perfected the two accumulations, it is connected to the reason why the result of that individual must be established, and is called the result of the Perfection of Wisdom. In reality, the one wisdom itself, only in relation to the individual who is a Buddha, is the result, and from the perspective of the general characteristics of the ground, path, and result, it is established as nature. Therefore, that actual result is primordially self-arisen.
