Like a city, appearing but without inherent existence. Thus, from the "Ornament of the Holy Auspicious Transformation": "In this, there are no realms whatsoever, nor the five aggregates and consciousnesses, Name and form are their causes, and the minds of sentient beings are also like that, Just as fire, by the power of wood, Burns and does not think of burning, Likewise, the aggregates are like an empty tree, why not enter into yoga? Like the thirst of a deer and a Gandharva, in the appearance of places and sounds, Seeing deer calves and other things, deluded by incorrect signs, not real, Likewise, the minds arising from objects, revolve like a magnetic wheel, Whatever is in this is not real, The elements and the elemental, Moving, warm, wet, and hard, Thirsts are always conceived, Since the elements arise from the collection of minds, why not enter into yoga? As long as the body is not destroyed and exists, And as long as wisdom arises, In between, do not abandon the wisdom of yoga, Practice meditation diligently and appropriately, Everything is like an illusion and a dream, Contemplate all three existences well, Like a mirage and a moon in water, why not enter into yoga? Just as in a Gandharva city, the activities of beings appear in various ways, Likewise, the activities of the aggregates in the body, why not enter into yoga? In dreams, there are crowds of beings, Just as one sees dreams in a dream, Likewise, the nature of the aggregates, Why not enter into yoga? This earth and the collection of earth and so on, Is a collection of particles of dust, This is the collection of mind and mental factors, All the sons of the Victorious One should contemplate, The four great elements, Gathered together from each other, Possessing striking and other actions, why not enter into yoga? This is intoxicated by wind and bile, Abiding like a poisoned nature, There is no agent whatsoever, why not enter into yoga? Like a collection of water bubbles, Beings abide and move, In the conception of mirages, Extremely grasping at things and other phenomena, Feeling is like the nature of a water bubble, Conceiving thoughts of pleasure and pain, Actions are like the nature of a water tree, Decaying, rotten, without essence, Consciousness is like the nature of an illusion, Its substance has no abiding, Like the abiding of grass and trees, why

Do not engage in distracted yoga. This is as confusing as a dream, as alluring as an illusion. All of this is like a mirage, like a city of gandharvas. As it is said. If it is true that illusions and so on do not exist as they appear, then the aggregates arise from their respective causes without producing false results. Because they are able to function, it is thought that they exist by their own nature. However, those things that arise from separate causes do not exist by their own nature, because if that cause does not exist, they will not arise, so they necessarily depend on the cause. For example, the image of a face that appears in a mirror does not exist independently by its own nature, because it only appears from the combination of the face and the mirror. These are, as stated in this sutra, "Form is emptiness," and similarly, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are also emptiness. The way in which these five aggregates, which are said to be without inherent existence and empty, are established is only briefly explained. "Form is emptiness," and "Emptiness is form," etc., are used as a basis for combination, and it is also necessary to combine with the other four aggregates. Furthermore, just as the five aggregates are combined with emptiness as a basis, it will become a basis for combination until the end, because many say that emptiness and signlessness, etc., have the same meaning. Because that is also acceptable, since there is no greater power than the former, there is no need to explain the basis for combination for the seven, such as selflessness. Regarding these four, "Form is emptiness," etc., in the Great Commentary, they are combined to prevent the errors of non-Buddhists and the lower schools of our own tradition, which seems to be an inappropriate explanation. Furthermore, among the terms explained here, "Form is emptiness" means that the form imputed by concept is empty of its own nature, and "Emptiness is form" means that the emptiness of form is the form of suchness, and "Emptiness is not other than form" means that the dependently arisen form that is imputed is not other than the perfectly established emptiness from its essence, and "Form is not other than emptiness" means that the form imputed by concept is not other than the perfectly established emptiness. Such an explanation is in accordance with the tenets of the Mind-Only school.
