It is conceptualization, because the very nature of conceptualization is other-powered, but the part that becomes knowledge transformation in the manner of imputation is also the completely imputed. The characteristic of the other-powered is that it is only related to the appearance part of the completely imputed, and it is the basis for being able to manifest such a nature appearance, that is, only the image of the consciousness that holds knowledge. Various appearances appear in it, which arise from the other-powered of habit, and the consciousness itself is also formed from beginningless habits. 17-445 Therefore, because it appears without autonomy under the influence of habit, it is called other-powered. That is to say, the completely imputed is like an image, and what is constantly related to it is like a mirror, which is the basis for the appearance of the image. The characteristic of the perfectly established is that, although it appears to sentient beings as if it were inseparably mixed with the other-powered, the nature and characteristics are extremely contradictory, and it is the mind of the Dharma nature. For example, like gold and stone in the state of gold ore. Or, like poison having the ability to kill sentient beings, and having the ability to make life as long as the sun and moon, although the substance and characteristics of the ability are extremely contradictory, the eyes of ordinary people cannot distinguish them. If any situation arises that makes things and medicines etc. not die, then the deadly material ability will be purified from the root. Therefore, all the nature of the obscurations to be abandoned and the wisdom of the path to be abandoned is other-powered, so the other-powered is the place of acceptance and rejection, and is the true conventional truth, while the perfectly established is the ultimate truth that is liberated from acceptance and rejection. By abandoning the other-powered, the completely imputed will be purified in itself, but it is also necessary to understand the nature of the completely imputed. Furthermore, it is said: "Discrimination and knowledge, as well as coarse speech, the supreme meaning is unique." Thus distinguishing the two truths, and "Meaning and attainment and accomplishment are considered to be three kinds of ultimate meaning." And so on, therefore it is necessary to understand the respective distinctions, as well as the differences between real and imputed, because it will become very numerous here, so I will not elaborate. In this way, the basis of phenomena such as aggregates, realms, and sources is merely imputed by conceptualization, 17-446 and appears to inverted wisdom.

It is only so. But in reality, there is not even a little bit. All the conventional dharmas are originally non-existent; while the ultimate dharmas remain unchanging. This is the true nature. Moreover, the conventional dharmas are originally unestablished, which means that the dharmadhatu merges into the self-nature of the unchanging dharmadhatu. Now, in this context, I will explain it in conjunction with the Prajñāpāramitā-stotra (Hymn to Transcendence) spoken by the noble Nāgārjuna, which is the essence of Madhyamaka. As it says in that text: “O wise one, your aggregates are like illusions, mirages, cities of gandharvas, and dreams. You have fully revealed this to the wise. Whatever arises from causes, cannot come into being without them. Since it is like a reflection, why not acknowledge its appearance? The elements are not apprehended by the eye, so how can they be objects of the eye? Since the apprehension of form itself is completely negated, how can you speak of form in that way? Without what is to be felt, there is no feeling. Since feeling itself is without self, you assert that feeling does not exist by its own nature. Name and meaning are not different. People's speech becomes words. You have shown that otherwise it would become incomprehensible, which is the truth. You have also shown that the agent and independence are merely nominal designations. You assert that they are established as mutually dependent. There is no agent, nor is there action. Merit is not like that; it arises from dependent origination. Having arisen dependently, know what is unborn. You are the master of words. Without the knower, there is no knowable. Without it (the knowable), there is also no consciousness. Therefore, you say that the knower and the knowable have no inherent existence.” And so on. Here, it refers to the absence of self of phenomena (dharma-nairātmya) among the two types of selflessness. That is to say, if there is any phenomenon of appearance and sound, and if there exists some unique, independent essence that is not shared with others, then that phenomenon itself is autonomous, not dominated by others, and therefore it is called "self." In short, if the phenomena of appearance and sound are not merely illusions, not merely conceptual constructs, but exist in reality, or have independence, then it becomes a "self of phenomena."
