That which is nominally existent and truly conventional is that which is real. The ultimate truth of names is merely the ultimate truth, the ultimate truth that is nominally existent, and the ultimate truth that is not a name is the ultimate truth itself. Why is it called conventional? The Sanskrit word for conventional, samvṛti, is derived from the sound of samvṛti, and it means that which obscures the truth and becomes the appearance of ignorance. Also, sam means all, and prata means deception, obscuration, and falsehood, so it is all false. That which is called the world should be indicated by the measure of the world. From the perspective of conventional truth, the Sanskrit word for convention is byavahāra, which is also formed by connecting vi, ava, and hāra. The vi in it is added to śeṣa, meaning special, different, or determined as different, i.e., viśeṣa. Ava is determination, and hāra is collecting and holding, so it is determining and holding each different thing. For example, a vase refers to something with a bulging belly and a shrinking bottom, not something else. A pillar refers to doing the work of supporting beams, not something else. In this way, conceptual thought establishes various names for many different things, speaks and determines them, that is the meaning. The "tha" in "different" and the first letter in "convention" have the same meaning, which is the name of each thing, and "different" also means existing separately, so it is a combination of two names. Therefore, when adding a negative word to "different," one does not say "not different," but inserts it in the middle of the two words, saying "non-different," which can be seen. That which is called ultimate truth is paramārtha, parama is the supreme and ultimate, which is non-conceptual wisdom. artha is meaning, by which one understands and comprehends, it is the meaning of obtaining certainty. Therefore, although reality is only the wisdom of reality, due to following what is similar, for the unconfused awareness of each ordinary person, and for the ordinary insight that focuses on reality, there are also names established as wisdom, ultimate truth, and noble beings. Then, because one must accept the tenet that "existence and non-existence are only it," like the absence of grasper and grasped and the existence of awareness, the reality itself becomes two.
