That is, dreams, illusions, disturbances caused by illness, cataracts, etc., and relying on the mind being misled by examples and reasoning, etc., giving rise to the discriminating thoughts that grasp at the chief, the self, the powerful, etc., and the general concepts of the imputed phenomena attached to these, such as the chief, etc., and also things like the mere emptiness of cattle and horses, etc., which lack the ability to perform functions, and cannot produce the desired results even in the world. The second is the valid conventional truth, which does not rely on what is directly imputed by conceptual thought, has a clear appearance that is not misled by immediate causes of delusion, does not deceive in the world regarding what to accept and reject, and accomplishes the desired results, such as fire burns, water moistens, the eyes see forms, the ears hear sounds, going on a path leads to arriving there, sin leads to going to hell, virtue leads to going to heaven, meditating on selflessness leads to attaining liberation, perfecting the accumulations leads to the arising of Buddhahood, and so on. Although such things, actions, and causes and effects are not established at all in the face of ultimate truth, in the world, causes and effects appear without error, experience is stable and reliable, and the places of acceptance and rejection become meaningful, therefore, conventional and valid are indicated by names with a common basis. Many who claim to be Madhyamikas say that the distinction between valid and invalid conventional truths is a distinction that is renowned in the world itself, but for the conventional truth of the Madhyamika system itself, there is no distinction between valid and invalid, because the fire of a dream also burns in a dream, so it can function in a dream, and real fire also does not perform the act of burning in ultimate truth, so in reality, acting and not acting are the same, and in appearance, acting and not acting are also the same. They say this. This is not right, because in the state of being awake, for those whose senses are without defect, this dependent arising of cause and effect that appears necessarily appears in a place, body, life, lineage that is the same, and is experienced without confusion with reasons and accompanied by reasons, and in a dream, the place, body, and life are the same lineage, and sometimes entering the fire does not

It shakes. Sometimes it appears wet even when entering the fire. Sometimes it goes to the thirty-three (heavens) when entering the fire, and so on. Because it is seen as very uncertain and confusing. Therefore, the result arising from stable habituation and the result arising from unstable habituation are very different. Furthermore, conventional truth is called worldly truth, because what is distinguished by worldly people must be established based on the wisdom of worldly people. Whatever is considered reasonable by knowledgeable people in the world is also reasonable here, and the establishment of worldly truth that contradicts worldly people is very strange. What is this so-called self-nature of the Madhyamaka school? If it is said to be the perspective of intellectual investigation, then in your school, from the perspective of intellectual investigation, the basis of difference, the conventional itself, is not established. Although it is true that such a false distinction will not arise, it is foolish to make conventional establishments on such a self-nature. Moreover, in that intellectual perspective, will the conventional not merely become an illusion? Because for establishing something like an illusion, there needs to be an appearance, but in the intellectual perspective, that is not there. Furthermore, if it is said to be the experience of a yogi in the post-meditation state, then for that, the difference between right and wrong is very great, because it is impossible to have experience of the wrong, but the right has experience. Even if it can be compared to an illusion, the difference in their own characteristics is not contradictory. The illusory elephant appears as a form with tusks, while the illusory horse does not appear with tusks. The functions are also different, joy arises from the illusion appearing beautiful, just as displeasure arises from the appearance of something not beautiful. Even if someone like a magician knows it is an illusion, they will not prevent liking and disliking, because desire arises from the power of habituation. Just as knowing with wisdom that the body is impure does not prevent attachment to the body. Therefore, unless one directly sees the suchness that is like an illusion, even if one recognizes it as an illusion with intellect, one will not prevent attachment, aversion, and so on, but if one becomes accustomed to it, it will only become slightly less. It should also be understood in this way. If you say, whatever the worldly customs are, then you
