competing. At that time, the inner path followers were unable to do it. When the teacher arrived there, unwashed things fell on his body, 16-558 and he knew that he had the ability. So he requested to compete with the heretics in ability, and they agreed. The heretics drew a large mandala of colored powder in the sky, and in an instant, a strong wind blew, carrying the mandala and the heretics across a river. All those who had good feelings towards the heretics were blown away. The king and others who believed in the inner path were not harmed in any way, so they defeated the heretics and promoted the Dharma. That place was also known as the place where the heretics were defeated. This is found in all reliable historical records, so it must be believed. However, due to the changes of time, the name of the place may have changed. Now we don't know which place it is. In addition, according to the Tibetan historical records, for five hundred people who held strange views and had their livelihoods cut off, he used his magical powers to conjure up food and give it to them, so that they would convert to the Dharma. He also did the same for about a thousand Mūtobas. It is said that he also participated in a great battle and used his magical powers to pacify the war. The excellent deity is mindful of Nālandā's arrangement, the perfect debate can avert, the strange person and the beggar, the king and the heretics are all subdued. It is said that these are seven wonderful stories. The omniscient spiritual friend was a prince of a king in Kashmir. When he was a small child, he was placed on the roof of a house, and his mother went to pick flowers. The little prince was carried away by an eagle and placed on top of a monastery in the central region of glorious Nālandā. The paṇḍitas took him down and raised him. When he grew up, he became very intelligent. He became a fully ordained monk who upheld the Vinaya. He practiced the noble Tārā, 16-559 and actually saw her face. He obtained inexhaustible wealth, and gave it all away in charity. One day, he had nothing left to give away. Thinking that if he stayed here, many beggars would go away empty-handed, he traveled far to the south. On the way, he met an old blind Brahmin being led by his son.

After it happened, (he) asked, "Where are you going?" (He) replied, "In Nalanda, there is someone called 'Omniscient Good Friend,' who is said to satisfy all beggars, so I am going to beg from him." (The teacher) said, "If that is me, all my possessions are exhausted, and I have come here." Seeing him tormented by extreme suffering, (the teacher) felt immeasurable compassion. A king named Sarana, who was very attached to wrong views and followed a cruel teacher, bought 108 people, thinking, "If I offer them as a fire sacrifice, all their life and power will come to me, and it will also be a cause for liberation." He had found 107 people, and hearing that one more was missing, the teacher thought, "I will sell myself to help this Brahmin." So (he) said, "Do not suffer. I will go and get the things." (He) asked, "Who in the city does not buy people?" The king bought (him) and paid gold equal to the teacher's weight as the price. The teacher gave the gold to the Brahmin, who was satisfied and left. After that, the teacher came to the king's throne. Those people said, "If you had not come, we might have been liberated, but now we will be burned immediately," and were in great distress. That night, in a wide open space, the 108 people were tied in the middle of a pile of wood stacked like a mountain. The teacher with wrong views performed the ritual. When all the wood was burning with flames, those 107 people 16-560 uttered cries of lamentation themselves. The teacher felt unbearable compassion and prayed earnestly to the noble Tara. The blessed lady appeared before him and poured a stream of nectar from her hand. In the eyes of the people, there was no other place, but only where the fire was burning, a stream of rain as thick as a yoke fell. The fire extinguished and turned into a lake. Then the king was amazed and respectfully offered to the teacher, and also gave rewards to those people and released them. Although the king made great offerings, he did not enter the right view, and the holy Dharma did not flourish. After a long time, the king became discouraged and prayed to the blessed noble Tara: I myself
