and received great rewards. Therefore, without having studied all the common fields of knowledge such as sound (Sanskrit: śabda, Devanagari: शब्द, Romanized: shabda, literal meaning: sound) and logic, he naturally understood them, and his fame spread in all directions. After that, he took refuge in a Mahayana master and took the five precepts. From the great scholar Lodro Tenpa, he understood almost all the Sutra Pitaka and Abhidhamma Pitaka after hearing them only once. He received instructions from the Vidyadhara master named Nya-ngen Mepa, and by practicing the vidya mantras, he directly saw the faces of the Holy Avalokiteshvara and Tara, and became an extremely learned master. After that, in the land of King Bharsha in the east, he composed many treatises on medicine, poetics, and crafts. In particular, he extensively taught grammar. At that time, he married the king's daughter, named Tara, and the king also gave him a territory. Once, when his servant was calling "Tara," he thought, "It is not appropriate to have the same name as the deity in the household," and the master intended to go to another place. The king learned of this and ordered, "If he does not live with his father's daughter, put him in a box and throw him into the Ganges." After the king's order was carried out, the master prayed to the Holy Mother Arya Tara, and as a result, he reached an ocean island at the confluence of the Ganges and the sea. It is said that the island was manifested by the Holy Mother, and it was named Chandra Dwipa, named after Chandra Gomi who resided there. It still exists today, and it is said that it can accommodate about seven thousand villages. The master resided on that island and carved statues of the Holy Avalokiteshvara and Tara in stone. At first, the fishermen heard the news, and then gradually other people came and formed a city. Due to the encouragement of the Holy Avalokiteshvara, Gomi became a lay practitioner, and his name was Chandra. From then on, he was known as Chandra Gomi. Later, he was taken by merchants to the island of Simhala. That place had many Naga diseases, so he built a temple of the Holy Simhanada Avalokiteshvara there, pacifying the diseases. He also spread countless fields of knowledge such as crafts and medicine in that place.

I especially 16-546 grant benefits to foolish people. I also explain the Mahayana Dharma as much as possible. I took wealth from the local guardian spirit Yaksha and established many Dharma foundations. Later, I came to the southern part of Jambudvipa again. In the temple of the Brahmin Supreme Desire, I also saw the arrangement of the dragon listening to sounds, and the commentary on Pāṇini by the dragon Shesha. Then I criticized, saying that a commentary should be concise in words, rich in meaning, non-repetitive, and complete. But the dragon is very ignorant, with many words, little meaning, repetitive, and incomplete. So, to comment on the meaning of Pāṇini, I composed the Cāndra Vyākaraṇa, including its branches. In that treatise, it is said, "Concise, clear, vast, complete," which is also a satire on the dragon. Then I came to the source of knowledge, the glorious Nālandā. At Nālandā, the paṇḍitas who could debate with heretics preached the Dharma outside the iron walls, and those who could not tolerate it preached inside. At that time, the abbot Candrakīrti was preaching the Dharma outside, and Cāndragomin stood there. Those who wanted to debate would do the same, otherwise they would either not listen or listen respectfully. There, Candrakīrti wondered if this was a debating opponent, so he asked, "Where do you come from?" He replied, "From the south." He asked, "What Dharma do you know?" He replied, "I know the Pāṇini grammar, the Hundred and Fifty Praises, and the True Name Recitation, these three." Then (Candrakīrti), although verbally humble, saying, "This person only knows these three treatises," he actually admitted that (the other) was proficient in grammar, Sutra, and Tantra, and wondered if this was Cāndragomin, so he asked him, and (the other) said, "That's what I'm known as in the world." "Then, it's not good for a great scholar like you to come down from the sky. The Sangha should welcome you, so please go to the city for a while." Cāndragomin said, "I am a layman, how can the Sangha welcome me?" Candrakīrti said, "There is a way, invite an image of the Holy Mañjuśrī, and you walk waving a fly-whisk for him, and the Sangha will be welcoming the image of Mañjuśrī." Later, it was done that way, and in the three chariots, the Holy Mañjuśrī was seated in the middle one, and Candrakīrti was on the right.

Waving a fly-whisk. On the left, Chandra Gomi waves a fly-whisk. In front, the Sangha welcomes him. Countless people came to see. Acharya Chandra Gomi felt that the statue was the actual Manjushri. Although Manjushri was praised countless times by the Tathagatas of the ten directions, he still (praised) like this. When reciting these praises, the statue of Manjushri turned its face to listen, and people said that the statue did this, so that place was called the holy place "Jingyongma." There, Chandra Gomi's faith increased greatly. Chandrakirti went ahead without pulling the reins of the chariot, and Chandra Gomi thought that this was arrogance, and I would debate with him. Chandrakirti thought so. There, Chandra Gomi relied on the tradition of Asanga and advocated the Vijnanavada school. Chandrakirti relied on Nagarjuna's treatises, explained by Buddhapalita and others, and advocated the Svabhavasunyata school. They engaged in debates for seven years. To watch the debate, many people gathered together frequently. Even the village boys and girls knew a little bit and sang, "Alas, the treatises of the holy Nagarjuna, are medicine for some and poison for others. The treatises of the invincible holy Asanga, are nectar for all beings." Later, when the debate was nearing its end, Chandra Gomi was staying in a temple of the holy Avalokiteshvara. Chandrakirti said, "Today, many arguments have been put forward. Tonight, I will ask the holy Avalokiteshvara and answer tomorrow, so that Chandrakirti will not be able to answer." After many months like this, Chandrakirti thought, "He must have someone teaching him to debate." So Chandrakirti secretly followed Chandra Gomi, and he went to the temple. Chandrakirti eavesdropped outside the door and heard the stone statue of the holy Avalokiteshvara teaching Dharma to Chandra Gomi, imparting wisdom like a teacher teaching a student. Chandrakirti opened the door and said, "Does Chandrakirti have favoritism for the Holy One?" As soon as he finished speaking, the stone statue immediately turned into stone, and the finger that was teaching the Dharma was still pointing up, so it was called the holy place "Raised Finger." From that time on...
