There appeared two people, the great friend Brahmin Good Protector and the Brahmin Superior Desire. Those two made great offerings to the Sangha. Brahmin Good Protector, through the power of knowledge-mantras, wherever he went to different places, he would take all enjoyments from the non-humans of that place. Eight thousand eight hundred Brahmins, two thousand monks, and tens of thousands of other wanderers and beggars were satisfied every day with all necessities. Superior Desire had a pair of leaf shoes made of wood that were accomplished through knowledge-mantras. Wearing them, he would take good necessities from the abodes of gods and nagas and make the beggars happy. However, once he became unfriendly with the king, who thought, 'Will this person use evil mantras against me?' So he sent messengers to kill him. He put on the shoes and fled to the city of the Noble Country. Eventually, the king deceived him, and a woman stole his shoes, so he could not escape and was killed by the executioner. The king also built twenty-four temples to purify the sin of killing the Brahmin. In all those temples, he made the basis of the Dharma complete with necessities. Some think that the Third Council occurred at this time, but that seems unlikely. It is said that the one called Superior Desire wrote many treatises on the Abhidharma and gave them to the Dharma speakers. Various kinds of scriptures existed even from the time when the Teacher was alive. Some say that this was the first commentary work to be written as a treatise. The meaning of Abhidharma is the meaning of detailed explanation. Previously, the Teacher himself spoke the words of the Buddha and taught the key points, while also explaining the meaning of the Buddha's words. Therefore, there were no separate treatises that were easier to understand than the Sutras. Later, for the benefit of future sentient beings, the treatises of Abhidharma were made. Some say that during the time of concealment, the Arhats jointly composed these treatises. Others think that they were made by Dignaga and the Sarvastivadins, etc. The Tibetans think that they were made by the Sarvastivadins and the hunchback, etc., by five hundred Arhats in the north.
