Now there was also inexhaustible enjoyment. Offering to all the monks of the four directions, and for three years, offering hundreds of thousands of offerings to all the stupas on the ground. At that time, in the destroyed place, a Brahmin named Sound, who was very devoted to the teachings, built a temple called the Reed Temple. When the Arhat Sound taught the Dharma, many monks from the four directions gathered. He also established a great festival for hundreds of thousands of monks. At that time, in a certain part of the country of Maru, there was a merchant's son named the Great God, who had killed his parents, who were Arhats, and had committed the three deeds of immediate retribution. He became disgusted with his own sins and went to Kashmir. He completely concealed his conduct and became a monk, and because of his sharp intellect, he became very proficient in the three baskets. Because he was very remorseful, he diligently practiced meditation in the monastery. He was blessed by Mara, and everyone regarded him as an Arhat, and his fame and gain greatly increased. Accompanied by many monks, he went to the Reed Temple. When the monks were reciting the Pratimoksha Sutra in turn, when it was the Great God's turn, at the end of reciting the Sutra, he said: The gods are deceived by ignorance, the path arises from the continuation of sound, those who doubt are led by others, this is the teaching of the Buddha. After the Teacher spoke, the noble ones and the elder monks said that these were not the words of the Sutra. However, most of the other monks sided with the Great God and argued with him. Furthermore, he also explained many incorrect interpretations of the meaning of the Sutra. After he died, some said that a monk named Good Monk who followed him was actually an incarnation of the evil demon. He also raised many questions and doubts about the meaning of the Buddha's words, and proclaimed the five bases, namely, answering others, ignorance, doubt, complete examination, and nourishing oneself, and praised it as the teaching of the Teacher. Because many people with different wisdom had different ways of understanding the Buddha's words, various kinds of doubts and uncertainties arose, and disputes were triggered.
