It became chaotic. Moreover, those who preached various sutras in different regional languages also had various differences in length due to slight differences in writing and pronunciation. At that time, wise men such as Arhats tried to quell the dispute, but the ordinary monks were controlled by demons, and the dispute could not be quelled. When Mahadeva and Bhadra died, the monks understood the situation of the two. After the Second Kasyapa (འོད་སྲུང་གཉིས་པ་) passed away, in the country of Mathura (མ་ཐུ་ར།), that is, the destroyed land, Arya Mahakesara (སྤུ་ཆེན་པོ།) and Arya Nandika (དགའ་བ་ཅན།) continued to promote the Dharma. This is the story of the Second Kasyapa period, the ninth chapter. Tenth chapter, the story of the Arya Mahakesara period, etc. Arya Mahakesara and Arya Nandika promoted the Dharma, and soon after, King Virasena died, and his son Nandika inherited the throne and ruled for twenty-nine years. This king accomplished a spell called Flesh-eating Pikhuba (ཤ་ཟ་པི་ཁུ་བ་), and when he held his palm to the sky, his palm would be filled with jewels. At that time, in Suvarnabhumi (གསེར་བྲེ), a man named Brahmin Scholar (བྲམ་ཟེ་མཁས་པ་) appeared, and he gathered all the monks from the four directions and held a grand festival for seven years. After that, in Kashi (ཀ་ཤི་ཝཱ་རཱ་ཎ་སཱི།), the king provided for the monks for many years. During this period, a monk named Naga (ཀླུ།) was very learned and repeatedly praised the Five Matters, thereby intensifying the dispute in the Sangha, leading to a split into four sects. At that time, Arya Dharmavanik (ཆོས་ཀྱི་ཚོང་དཔོན།) attained Arhatship, and he led the peaceful Sangha, leaving the contentious Sangha and going to the northern region. King Nandika's friend was the Brahmin Panini (པཱ་ཎི་ནི།), who was born in the western Biruka Garden (བྷི་རུ་ཀའི་ཚལ།). He asked a palm reader whether he understood grammar, and the palm reader predicted that he did not. He modified his palm lines with a sharp knife, and then visited all the grammar teachers on earth, studying hard. Although he learned something, he was still not satisfied, so he wholeheartedly practiced the tutelary deity, and the deity appeared, saying only "A A I U (ཨ་ཨི་ཨུ་)",

He knows all the places of sound in the three realms. Outsiders say that this is Ishvara, but the outsiders themselves do not have the source of it. The insiders say that it is Avalokiteśvara. The Brahmin boy Pāṇini, I have prophesied that he will surely become a Śrāvaka Bodhi. The great Lord Ishvara is also accomplished through his mantra. As it is prophesied in the Mañjuśrīmūlatantra, it has a source. He composed a treatise called the Pāṇinīya-vyākaraṇa, in which there are one thousand ślokas of sūtras of grammar, and one thousand ślokas of sūtras of separate explanations, totaling two thousand ślokas. This is like the root of all combinations of sounds, and before that, there was neither a treatise with written records of the combinations of sounds, nor a unified and organized sequence. Therefore, the former grammarians started from one or two combinations of sounds, collecting all the scattered parts, and thus became very knowledgeable. Although it is said in Tibet that the Indra-vyākaraṇa is the earliest, it is possible that it appeared earlier in the heavenly realm, but it is not the earliest to appear in the holy land (India), which will be explained below. The Cāndra-vyākaraṇa translated into Tibetan is in accordance with Pāṇini, and the Kālāpa-vyākaraṇa is in accordance with the rules of Indra, so the Paṇḍitas say. In particular, the Pāṇinīya-vyākaraṇa, because its meaning is more extensive, it is very rare to fully understand it and its components. The story of the time of the noble Great Hair and so on, that is the tenth (story). Eleventh, the story of the time of King Padma. In the northern border country called the Land of Forests, there appeared a king named Mejin. He offered to about three thousand noble ones, including the Arhat Dharma Merchant, for more than thirty years. In the central region, the noble Great Giver maintained the doctrine, and in the city of Flowers, the son of King Gawa, named Padma the Great, made offerings to all the Sangha. However, a monk named Yid-brtan-pa, who followed the abbot Nāga, fully proclaimed the five bases and widely spread disputes, thus beginning the beginning of the four divisions gradually splitting into eighteen divisions. King Padma
