Later, he became discordant with his brothers and fought for many years, eventually killing six brothers and five hundred ministers. Furthermore, he destroyed many cities and ruled over all the lands between Khawa-can (ཁ་བ་ཅན) and Ribo-bikje (རི་བོ་འབིགས་བྱེད). He became extremely wrathful and cruel, and unless he carried out punitive executions, his mind could not be at peace, and he would not even eat. First thing in the morning, he would order punitive executions such as killing, imprisoning, and beating, and only then would his mind be at peace and he would begin to eat. There are many stories about that king's army, but they are not told because they are not necessary. This is what Sadang Sangpo (ས་དབང་བཟང་པོ) said. I also heard some rumors from India, but they are not written here either. At that time, the heretical Brahmins urged him to engage in sacrificial offerings of living beings. In particular, a hermit of the Brahmin caste named Balang-nawa (བ་ལང་རྣ་བ་) declared that if a sacrifice of killing ten thousand people was performed, then the kingdom would expand and it would become a cause for liberation. Therefore, he built a sacrificial house. Although he searched everywhere for someone capable of killing ten thousand people, he could not find one for a while. Finally, he found a Chandala (གདོལ་པ) caste from Tirahati (ཏི་རཱ་ཧཱ་ཏི་). He sent all those who were fit to be killed to that house, and said, "Until ten thousand people are gathered, kill everyone who comes here. This is a vow to offer uninterrupted asceticism." The king himself promised this. In this way, when he had killed about a thousand or two thousand people, the executioner was wandering outside the city. A Bhikshu, hoping to reverse his actions, spoke of various sins of killing and the sufferings of hell, but could not awaken his roots of virtue. The executioner thought, "Before, people were only killed by beheading, but now, from the words of this Bhikshu, I hear that they can be killed in various ways such as burning, cutting, and skinning." He killed many in this way, killing about five thousand people in the sacrificial house. At that time, his former name changed, and he became known as Chandala Ashoka (ཙཎྜ་ལ་ཨ་ཤོ་ཀ), meaning the cruel, sorrowless king. At that time, the Shramanera, a disciple of Arhat Grakpa (གྲགས་པ), m...

I, due to abiding in the realization of the path of hearing and practice, arrived at the sacrificial house without knowing the way. When the executioner began to strike with his sword, I asked the reason. He told the previous story. I said, "Then kill me after seven days. In the meantime, I will not go anywhere else. I will stay in this sacrificial house." The executioner agreed. Because he saw that the sacrificial place was filled with flesh, blood, bones, and entrails, he manifested the sixteen aspects of truth, such as impermanence. Seven days before, he also attained the Arhatship, and the magical powers were also accomplished. On the day after seven days, because such attire had never appeared in this house before, he said, "We will use a method of killing that has never been used before." He filled a large copper pot with sesame oil, put the novice monk inside, and set it on fire. Although the fire burned day and night, his body was not harmed in the slightest. So he reported to the king, and the king was surprised, so he came to the sacrificial house. There, when the executioner ran out with his sword, the king asked the reason. He said, "This is the vow that the king himself made, that everyone who comes to this house must be killed until ten thousand people have been killed." The king said, "Then you came here before me, so you should be killed first." So the two began to fight, and then the novice monk showed miracles such as raining, blowing wind, and walking in the sky, so the king and the executioner became even more convinced, prostrated at his feet, and the seed of Bodhicitta was awakened. Then he taught the Dharma, and the king deeply regretted his sinful deeds, so he destroyed the sacrificial house on the spot. In order to purify his sins, he asked the novice monk to stay here. The novice monk said, "King, I cannot tell you how to purify your sins. In the eastern monastery of the wild goose, there lives the Khenpo Arhat named Dhvajagra, and he will help you purify your sins." According to the prophecy, the king also went to the Arhat.
