Then the Blessed One said, "Close the door on Devadatta and his disciples." And they did so. Part Two, The Prophecy of Devadatta. The second part is about the prophecy of Devadatta. Here, there is the story of Devadatta killing the Arhat Utpalavarna. Devadatta could not enter the palace, and he thought: I have caused dissension in the Sangha, and with evil intentions caused the Tathagata to bleed, and killed an Arhat, doing these three deeds of immediate retribution, but I have not achieved anything, and now I will be born in hell, and my heart is filled with regret. Then, Ajita Kesakambalin came to him and asked him why he was so depressed. Devadatta told him the truth, and Ajita Kesakambalin said, "Do you think that you are the only wise one among the Shakyas? You are also like a fool. Where is there any afterlife? It is like breaking a clay ball and never being able to restore it. There is no creator or causer. Don't worry about it. Go and rule the kingdom of Kapilavastu, and I will be your chief minister." Then, Devadatta developed wrong views and cut off the roots of virtue. Therefore, the Buddha prophesied, "Devadatta's lineage cannot be redeemed." Because he did not believe in the afterlife, he widely proclaimed the five ascetic practices to his disciples. Also, when the Tathagata was showing signs of illness, the young Jivaka was about to offer an iron-tipped arrow smeared with medicinal oil, the Buddha said, "Jivaka, is it wonderful? Or is the offering more important? Is it rare? Or is it more important? Do you know?" Jivaka replied, "I know, Blessed One." "Don't you know?" "I don't know, Blessed One." The Buddha understood his meaning and said: Jivaka understood that a cow eating suitable grass can produce amrita, from which medicinal oil is extracted, which is truly wonderful! The appearance of the Buddha and the preaching of the Dharma, and the establishment of the Sangha, this is truly rare! If one is born into the world, one knows that one will eventually die, but those who die are not necessarily reborn. Then, Jivaka thought: The Blessed One has a vajra-like body, and the body is so large, it needs so much, so he offered thirty-two taels of medicinal oil, and the rest was distributed to the Sangha. Devadatta also said: The Blessed One needs so much. The Buddha has a vajra-like body, but you do not need so much.

If you grab me, I also have a vajra body, why don't you grab me? After saying this, he drank thirty-two srangs of medicinal butter. The next day, when offering food to the Teacher (Buddha), he competed again. Devadatta drank gruel before the medicine was digested, resulting in indigestion and bloating. The severe pain made it impossible for him to sleep day and night, and he tossed and turned. This was told to the Blessed One by Ananda. The Blessed One, residing in a cave on Vulture Peak Mountain, extended his hand and placed it on Devadatta's head, and spoke the truth, and the illness was immediately cured. He recognized the Buddha's hand and said: Gautama is truly skilled in medicine, can he save people? There, those who were very attached to Devadatta also felt that the Buddha was compassionate and were amazed. Monks said: You were healed by the Teacher (Buddha). Devadatta said: Gautama knows the magic of control, and with it he controls the world. I was only cured after the medicinal butter was digested, what did he do for me? Later, the Shakyas advised Devadatta: You should confess to the Buddha. He filled his fingernails with a contact poison called "calf's navel". Thinking: If Gautama forgives me, that would be good, but if he doesn't, I will smear the poison on his feet. Then he went to the Teacher (Buddha) to ask for forgiveness, and the Teacher (Buddha) knew his thoughts and transformed the part of his legs below the knees into crystal. He pretended to bow at the Buddha's feet, and extended his fingernails to smear the poison, but upon contact with the nature of crystal stone, his fingernails broke. The poison fell in front of everyone, and he said with shame: Those who take refuge in the Buddha will not fall into the lower realms. 16-232 You said this, so I take refuge in you, if I fall into the lower realms, then that is a lie. Not long after, as Devadatta was walking on the ground, a little bit of hellfire emerged from the ground and touched his feet, and he shouted "ཚའོ་ཚའོ་" (Tibetan, save me) and ran. Immediately the ground split open and his body fell in, and the tips of the flames of the Avici hell covered his body, and he burned very painfully, crying and calling out to Ananda: I am burning. The Venerable Ananda said to him: You towards the Buddha
