It is said that the merchant was prophesied to become a Pratyekabuddha named Chandana. Moreover, because the blood had not yet stopped, someone said, "If you apply milk from a woman who has given birth to her first child, it will help." When the people living in Rajagriha heard this, there was very little milk from such women there, not even enough for their own children. She thought, "If I offer milk, the child will die. If Ajatashatru and Devadatta hear about it, I will be killed." She thought, "Even if I die or am killed, it's okay." So she milked into a new vessel and offered it. That girl who offered the milk was prophesied to become a Pratyekabuddha named Milk-giver. However, because the blood still had not stopped, some people used medicine, and some recited mantras, but none of them worked. So Light-increaser with ten powers (name of a Buddha's disciple) requested the Tathagata to declare the truth, and the Blessed One agreed. At that time, it was said like this: "Blessed One, in your heart, are sons and enemies the same? By this truthful word, may the flow of blood from the wound stop!" Just like that, as soon as the truth was declared, the blood stopped. After that, Devadatta and his five hundred followers, except for Ajatashatru, everyone was happy. When the monks were telling about Devadatta throwing stones, Kokalika said, "Are you talking nonsense? Devadatta is abiding in the samadhi of the fourth dhyana under a certain tree, how could that great being do such a thing?" The people on the border of Magadha also heard that Devadatta had done such a thing, so they came with weapons to kill Devadatta. Because in the world there is love, hatred, and neutrality, this is the nature of Dharma, so Devadatta was persecuted, and he thought, "Now I can neither escape nor fight, this method is good." So he acted as if he was abiding in samadhi under the tree with peaceful conduct. When the people came, they saw him like that, and thought, "This person is so tamed, then the previous words are not true." So they went back. From the time Devadatta transformed his skin into gold color until here, each story told a similar story of previous causes and conditions. At that time, Devadatta was oppressed by suffering, and thought: My throwing stones is meaningless.

did a great deed, but was unable to kill Gautama, and everyone would feel that I would be counted among the wicked. Eighty-first Taming the Mad Elephant The eighty-first Taming the Mad Elephant: The Blessed One was dwelling in the Light Garden of Rajagriha. King Ajatashatru had an elephant named Protector of Wealth, who was the son of a dragon elephant, very strong and difficult to tame, and often came out to kill many people and livestock. Therefore, it was not released every day. If it was to be released in the morning, it would be announced to everyone that night. A wealthy householder in Rajagriha invited the Buddha and the Sangha to accept offerings the next morning. The Buddha agreed. Devadatta heard this and gave the elephant trainer a string of pearl necklaces worth one hundred thousand, saying, "Tomorrow, when the Shramana Gautama comes, release the elephant Protector of Wealth." The elephant trainer said, "I am willing to do so, but please also be careful." Devadatta also told King Ajatashatru. King Ajatashatru said, "Haven't I heard that the Blessed One can subdue the unsubdued?" Devadatta said, "If that is the case, then subdue me first. He is not subduing the unsubdued, but should release the elephant Protector of Wealth." King Ajatashatru also agreed and informed the elephant trainer, announcing that the elephant Protector of Wealth would be released tomorrow, and everyone should be careful. The householder thought, "I am truly unlucky, having invited the Buddha once with great difficulty, but encountering such a thing." But he still prepared food and intended to take it as an offering. The next morning, he went to tell the Buddha, and the Buddha said that the Tathagata has no fear of elephants, and he returned very happily. Then, the Blessed One, together with five hundred monks, went to Rajagriha, and the elephant Protector of Wealth was released. It roared and rushed towards the Buddha with all its might. Devadatta and King Ajatashatru were watching from the pavilion. Devadatta said happily, "Look at the elephant Chaya, you are overwhelmed by the power of the elephant, Shakya

Alas, son, you today. I didn't expect to be with the Shravakas. When he said this, the Blessed One said: Possessing the power of the ten strengths, possessing wonderful power. Now look at the power of strength. Having said this, he transformed five maned lions from the five fingers of his right hand, and just smelling that scent, the Wealth Protector was frightened and ran away in confusion. Seeing flames burning in all directions, he could not find a place to escape. Knowing that only the place where the Blessed One was was peaceful, he slowly went to his feet. There, the other five hundred monks, seeing the angry elephant, fled in four directions. Only the venerable Ananda was sitting alone in front of the teacher. Then, the Blessed One stroked the Wealth Protector elephant with his hand. You acted improperly in the past, so you were born as an animal. Now, what will you become by killing other lives? And so on, he preached the Dharma. Have faith in me, and you will be liberated from the birth of an animal. Like this He said. Then, that elephant developed great faith in the Buddha, and very happily followed behind the Blessed One. When the teacher went to that householder's house, it also stood at the door. Because it did not see the teacher, it began to destroy the house. The teacher transformed the house into the nature of crystal, and saw his body very clearly, happily looking at it. There, he accepted offerings with the Sangha. Dedicating merit When leaving, the Wealth Protector elephant also followed behind the teacher. There, Ajatashatru said: In the past, the kings of other countries could not harm me because of the power of this elephant. Now you have destroyed it. He blamed Devadatta like this. Then the king ordered the city wall gates to be closed, saying to lock up the elephant. After doing so, the Wealth Protector elephant, not seeing the Buddha, trampled its own trunk with its own feet and died. Immediately after death, he was born as a god of the Four Great Kings lineage, and came to the teacher to make offerings. Hearing the Dharma, he saw the truth. At those times, the Blessed One went to the city of Rajagriha each time, Ajatashatru and Devadatta together wanted to harm the teacher and the Sangha.
