That person himself, together with the retinue of yakshas renowned for their great power, went before the Teacher and sat near his body. At that time, the assembly of flesh-eaters, seeing from afar that their abode was being suppressed by the Buddha, ran towards him, displaying various unsightly forms. When they approached, the sons of Vaishravana, together with many powerful yakshas, bound and tormented those flesh-eaters. As they fled in fear and panic, the Blessed One transformed all directions into great flames, and at that time they could find no place to escape. Therefore, they respectfully sought refuge in the Blessed One himself. The Teacher also taught the Dharma that, when heard, would turn the minds of the flesh-eaters to virtue, and they took refuge with great faith and properly took up the precepts. Fifty-fifth, Teaching the Great Assembly, etc. Fifty-fifth, Teaching the Great Assembly, etc.: Again, the Blessed One was dwelling in the forest of Kapilavastu, together with five hundred arhats, teaching the Dharma that possesses the bliss of nirvana. At that time, all the gods renowned for their great power, and other powerful spirits, gathered together. Then, four gods of the Brahma lineage came and offered special praise. The Teacher also specially praised, saying that the Buddhas of the past and those of the future also had such a great assembly as this, just as it is now. At that time, there were two myriads, five thousand, one hundred and ten disciples, all of whom were powerful gods, as well as seven thousand yakshas from the forest, six thousand of the golden lineage, and three thousand called Mountain Equal who came from the eastern garden of Dhritarashtra. There were sixteen thousand yaksha gods in total. The yaksha of Rajgir, named Water Beast, came with hundreds of thousands of attendants, as well as the friends of all and the attendants of the gods of all. The four great kings each came with ninety-one sons, as well as the servants of the four world-protectors, such as the Deceiver, who were exceedingly numerous, and the great yaksha chief Ni.

Those enumerated in this way are the numbers of the principal great and powerful ones, not the number of all the gods assembled there with their retinues. From one end of the mutually assembled eastern direction to the other end of the western direction, the vastness is invisible even to the eyes of the gods. Having assembled, they remained for a long time, and rained down a great rain of undefiled Dharma, like nectar, in accordance with their respective thoughts. At that time, all beings, including gods, were established in supreme faith, refuge, and the place of learning, and very many gods saw the truth, and many beings also generated the mind of enlightenment. They also offered all their respective vidyā-mantras and the essence of their lives as offerings, some were placed in vows, and some were appointed as Dharma protectors, and so forth. Then, everyone departed to their own places, and the Tathāgata also spoke auspicious words to all beings. This is the time of teaching the Mahāsamnipāta Sūtra, and from the perspective of the Common Vehicle, it is assumed that there is only a small amount of the Mahāsamnipāta Sūtra. 16-169 Again, after that, an old Brahmin who had been a father for five hundred births,
