If born, what will become of beings by taking the lives of others again? Please have faith in me! Thus he spoke. When the monks touched it and made a sound, he said: Lions are difficult to approach, do not touch them! Then the Teacher taught the lion the Dharma of impermanence and so on. It happily died without eating and was born as a god of the Four Great Kings. He came before the Buddha, prostrated and made offerings. The Blessed One taught him the Dharma, and he attained the stream-entry fruit. ༄། །The Sixth ཤེད་བུ་སེར་སྐྱ་ཉར་སྐྱེས་པ། The Sixth ཤེད་བུ་སེར་སྐྱ་ཉར་སྐྱེས་པ། is that the Blessed One was staying in the multi-storied house by the Monkey Pond in Vaishali. At that time, five hundred fishermen had two large fishing nets called "Great Woman Conduct" and "Small Conduct" in the delightful river, and they took turns casting them. Once, when a festival came, they knew that many people would come to buy fish, so they cast both nets. The small net caught fish, turtles, and other creatures like a pile of grain. The large net caught a crocodile fish of a kind that came from the ocean, asleep. When it was pulled from the net, it woke up and dragged three hundred and fifty people into the river. Those people cried for help, and another two hundred and fifty fishermen also pulled the net, but they could not succeed. They also cried for help, and hundreds of thousands of people helped to pull the net, and the net broke and the fish was brought ashore. That crocodile fish had eighteen heads: elephant, horse, camel, donkey, cow, monkey, lion, tiger, bear, brown bear, wolf, cat, goat, sheep, deer, buffalo, and pig, dog heads, and thirty-six eyes. At that time, many non-Buddhists and others came to watch. Then the Teacher smiled and rays of light emanated from him and disappeared into his navel. Ananda asked the reason, and the Buddha said: Now I will go to the river, monks, put on your Dharma robes! After saying this, the Teacher and his retinue went in that direction. Those who did not believe slandered, and most thought that there was a special meaning. The Thubpa (Sage) has wisdom that is free from distractions, does not speak meaningless words, and focuses on benefiting others.

The Victorious One will definitely come here for the benefit of sentient beings.” Thus it was proclaimed. Then, a seat was arranged in that direction, and the Buddha sat upon it. He said to the five hundred fishermen, “Release these creatures that have been taken from the water!” Having commanded thus, they released those creatures back into the water. That crocodile fish was able to speak the human language, and having been blessed to remember its past life, it engaged in questions and answers. The Teacher asked, “Are you a heretic?” The fish replied, “Yes, I am a heretic.” Similarly, he inquired, “Have you committed misdeeds with the three doors?” It replied, “Yes, I have.” “Have you experienced the ripening of karma?” It replied, “I have.” “Who is your unwholesome friend?” “My mother.” Then he asked, “Where were you born before?” “In hell.” “What is your current birth?” “An animal.” “Where will you be born next?” “In hell.” Having said this, the fish wept. Then, the Bhagavan said, “O compassionate king, have faith in me with a good mind, be free from attachment to this animal birth, and then you will go to the higher realms.” That fish also developed faith in the Buddha, and the Teacher also taught the Dharma. Ananda asked about the cause of this, and the Buddha replied, “In the teachings of the Buddha Kashyapa, there was a Brahmin, a learned speaker named Shedbu Serkya, a heretic. Urged by his own mother, he slandered the monks, saying, ‘You with the elephant heads, what do you know?’ As a result of these actions.” The Bhagavan thus explained. Countless beings became disgusted by this, and the Buddha extensively taught the Dharma, establishing hundreds of thousands of beings in the four fruits and the three types of bodhicitta. That crocodile fish also died from fasting, and with faith in the Teacher, was born as a deity of the lineage of the Four Great Kings. Having come to the Teacher's presence and made offerings, and having heard the Buddha's teachings, it attained the stream-entry fruit. The five hundred fishermen also, not having fallen into evil rebirths, developed a strong desire to become monks. Shariputra, knowing this, shaved their heads and brought them before the Teacher to request ordination. The Bhagavan also ordained those five hundred fishermen with the words 'Welcome, monks.' Later, after a long time, those five hundred attained Arhatship. Those five hundred who became monks from fishermen became Arhats.
