with \"To cause fields to arise,\" were written there. There,\ninstruct the messenger to open this painted image in a wide area of Sgrasgrog. If asked, \"What is this and what is that?\"\nexplain, \"These and those are like this,\" and so on in detail. Then,\nperfume the painted image with various fragrant scents, roll it up well, and place it sequentially in containers of gold, silver, and copper.\nWrap it with various excellent cloths. Send it as a gift with great respect, including making the city beautiful.\n16-142\nGradually, they went to Sgrasgrog,\nbearing the letter of the message ahead and presenting it to King Utrayana. It said,\n\"If there is a gift that is most extraordinary in the three worlds,\nmake the path beautiful for three and a half leagues, and\nreceive it with yourself and your army. Open it with great respect in a wide area.\"\nUtrayana thought, \"What kind of gift is this that they sent?\"\nHe became angry, thinking, \"They have belittled my effort!\" and said, \"Prepare the army!\"\nBut the ministers said, \"That king is said to be a great being.\nHe would not send a bad gift. First, look and examine it. If you are not pleased,\nthen do as you say.\" Then, as instructed in the letter,\nthey did so. In a wide area,\nthey hung the painted cloth on a long pole and opened it. Merchants from the central country\nsaw it and exclaimed, \"Homage to the Buddha!\"\nThe king, having never heard the word \"Buddha\" before, heard it then and his hair stood on end and his eyes stared fixedly.\n\"Who is this called Buddha?\" Then they explained the qualities of the teacher. When asked, \"What is this writing below?\"\nthey explained that taking refuge and the precepts are to be practiced,\ndependent origination is to be contemplated, and the writing above indicates that one should rejoice in having attained distinction.\nAt that time, many gods made offerings from the sky above the painted image.\nThen the painted image was brought to the upper room of the palace. It was offered to with many offerings.\nThe king himself, with cleanliness, took refuge and the precepts himself,\nand contemplated the meaning of the twelve links of dependent origination that very night." } ``` ============================================================

At the end of passing away, the fruit of entering the stream is also obtained. This is specifically stated for seeing the truth. O Buddha who dwells for a long time! The eye of wisdom is completely clear. Whoever possesses such 16-143 nourishment, I prostrate to the supreme physician! This is specifically stated. Then, King Utrayana said to Image Sage: Through your kindness, I have seen the truth. Now I also want to see the monks, so please send them here. Thus, a message was sent. Image Sage then requested the Blessed One, and the venerable Katyayana was sent with his five hundred attendants. Then, they went begging on the road, gradually arriving at Sagata, where they were received with great respect, invited, and prostrated at their feet, offering many offerings. Then, in that land, the venerable Katyayana taught the Dharma to many people, such as Brahmins and householders, causing them to obtain the four fruits, and countless people generated the mind of the three Bodhisattvas. At that time, the two householders, Victory and Star Victory, renounced and attained the Arhat state, displaying various miracles such as burning and shining, and then entered into Nirvana, and stupas were built for them, which people also worship. Then, the consorts and attendants wanted to hear the Dharma, so they requested the venerable Katyayana, but the monks were not allowed to go into the consorts' attendants. Then, who will teach in the central region? The nuns will teach. Then, they again requested Image Sage to send the nuns, and he also reported to the Blessed One, who sent the nun Rima and her five hundred attendants. There, they went begging on the road, and like before, they were received with great respect and invited, and five hundred summer residences were built. She taught the Dharma to the king's consorts, and also to many other women, establishing many people in the truth. King Utrayana was skilled in the lute, and the consort Moonlight was skilled in dance. 16-144 Then, after a long time, the king played the lute, and when Moonlight danced, the king was skilled in observation, and after observing, he knew that she would die in seven days, and the lute fell from his hand.
