The Thirty-Fifth: Sending to Subdue the Noble Lineage. The thirty-fifth, sending to subdue the noble lineage, is: At that time, in the western country of Mālava, in the city of Noble Lineage, when the tyrannical King Rab Snang (Radiant Light) was ruling the kingdom according to Dharma, a great plague broke out in that country. The mantra practitioners were striving to find a way to pacify the plague, but for a while, it did not subside. At that time, the Venerable Kātyāyana, knowing that the time for taming had come, ordered the people of the noble lineage, including King Rab Snang, to go with five hundred attendants to subdue them. As they set out, they passed through the city of Kanyakupa-dzana. In the past, a Brahmin who was a friend of the Venerable Kātyāyana had a beautiful daughter named Skra-can (Hair Woman). At that time, a music teacher who had come from the south saw her hair and said to the Brahmin father, "Sell me this hair, I will pay a thousand gold panas." The Brahmin scolded him harshly and did not sell it. The next day, the Brahmin himself died. Not long after, the Brahmin's wife heard that Kātyāyana and his entourage were coming, and thought, "He is a close friend of that Brahmin, but I have no means to offer him hospitality." She was very depressed. When her daughter asked her why, she told her the story. The daughter said, "Then sell my hair." So she asked the music teacher again, and the teacher said, "I don't need it now, but if you sell it for five hundred panas, I will take it." So she sold the hair and received five hundred panas. She made a good offering of umbrellas and food to the Venerable Kātyāyana and his entourage. 16-81 After that, the Brahmin woman sat down to listen to the Dharma. The Venerable asked, "Where is Skra-can?" She said, "She has become immoral and left," and told the story of what had happened. After that, the Venerable called Skra-can to his feet and had her prostrate. At that time, the Brahmin woman asked, "To whom should this Skra-can be given?" She asked a question that was not appropriate for someone who had renounced the world. However, whoever she is given to will receive five hundred hidden ornaments, five hundred external ornaments, and five hundred of the best things in the city. After making this prophecy, he left. As soon as the Venerable and his entourage arrived in the city of Noble Lineage, the plague

The places where many non-humans were driven away, half of the plague disappeared. The city gatekeeper reported to the king, "Since five hundred ascetics wearing previously unseen clothes came to this city, half of the plague has disappeared." The king was very pleased to hear this. The Brahmins said, "This is the power of our practice of peaceful deeds!" Then the king, in a filthy place filled with elephant dung, summoned five hundred Bhikshus including Katyayana and the Brahmins, and provided them with bad food. When they came out, the king sent a man to pretend to be indifferent and asked them whether the offerings they received were good or bad. The Brahmins spoke ill of the king, while the Bhikshus said, "The giver gave, the receiver received, all beings were satisfied, and we only took a day's worth of provisions." And they reported these words to the king. The next morning, the king again summoned both groups to a clean residence and offered them good food. Then, he sent another person to inquire as before. The Brahmins praised the king, while the Bhikshus answered as before. In this way, in many places such as horse dung, the king repeatedly investigated as before, and found that the Bhikshus remained consistent, while the Brahmins, out of greed, paid attention to the quality of the food and immediately changed their expressions. The king realized that the most excellent object of offering was the Bhikshus, so he offered to them more frequently. Once, in front of many dancers and singers, the king asked the Bhikshus about the quality of the singing and dancing. The Bhikshus replied, "We neither saw nor heard." The king did not believe this. So, the king ordered a man who had committed a capital crime to hold a bowl filled to the brim with oil, and threatened him, "Even if a single drop falls, you will be executed." Then he made him walk past the dancers and singers. Afterwards, the king asked him what kind of singing and dancing he had seen. The man replied, "I was so afraid of being executed that I saw nothing." At this time, the Blessed One said, "If even one who is afraid of the suffering of one lifetime is so mindful, what need is there to mention that the Bhikshus, who are afraid of the suffering of many lifetimes, constantly guard their mindfulness?" After that, the king became even more convinced and made great offerings to the Blessed One and his retinue, and made offerings to the Blessed One.
