As for how much soybeans are there? Answer: Twelve yojanas. There, thinking it was too close, he crossed the Ganges River, traveled around, and finally arrived at Rajagriha (present-day Rajgir, Bihar). Using the leaves of the Karavira tree as a bowl, he entered the city to beg for food. King Bimbisara saw him passing by from the top of the palace, and thought: There are many monks in Rajagriha, but no one else has such upright conduct. So he specially praised him, and (the Bodhisattva) lived near the blue Singa or Patala tree at the foot of the mountain. The king sent scouts, and learning that he was staying there, the king came to the Bodhisattva with his entourage, and said some joyful and admiring words. The king said: Young man, it is not appropriate to beg for food in your youth, I will offer you all the pleasures of desire, what is your lineage? He replied: King, near the snowy mountains, there is a place whose land is grain, filled with wealth, called Kosala. The descendants of the sugarcane race, the Shakya clan live there. King, I am of the Kshatriya caste, I do not pursue desires. He also said: King, even when I was just born, I developed a mind that did not like desires, and abandoned the terrible enemy of the Dharma, how can what has been abandoned be taken back again? And so on, he said a lot. Asked: What do you seek with such asceticism? Answered: Perfect Bodhi. Asked: When you attain it, please remember me. Answered: I will think that way. After that, the Bodhisattva went to the abode of various hermits near Vulture Peak Mountain, the hermits burned themselves with five fires, stood on one foot, etc., the Bodhisattva practiced twice as much as they did, and was called the Great Hermit and the Great Shramana. Knowing that they were only striving for the heavenly realm, he thought: This path is useless, it is a relapse, so...

The son with illusory wisdom went to the abode of Long Flight and requested Long Flight for all the key instructions from the realm of nothingness up to the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. He attained it that very night. The next morning, Long Flight asked, "Have you realized this Dharma of the realm of nothingness up to the realm of neither perception nor non-perception?" He replied, "Yes, I have realized it." Long Flight said, "In that case, we are the same and equal. Please, both of you, guide this entire retinue." He was overjoyed and satisfied, and then forgot about it. At that time, the Bodhisattva thought, "With just this path, one cannot know, one cannot see, and one cannot fully awaken." So he went to the abode of Laggaka's son, Superior Practice. There, everything was the same as with Long Flight, except that he attained the Samadhi of the Peak of Existence, called "No Perception, Non-No Perception," from him. Then, the Bodhisattva emerged from the abode of Superior Practice and went elsewhere. Twenty-first: Practicing Austerities Twenty-first: Practicing Austerities: At that time, King Śuddhodana sent many spies to observe the Bodhisattva. They heard that the Bodhisattva had no attendants and was wandering and dwelling alone. So he sent three hundred people to attend to him, and King Mahāprajāpatī also sent two hundred people. Then, wandering in the forest with five hundred attendants, he realized that he could not attain nectar while dwelling with so many people. So he took one-third of the people from his father's side and two-fifths of the people from his mother's side, and sent the rest back. Together with those who had transformed into the appearance of ascetics, he traveled through the village of Steṅs-rgyas, south of the city of Gayā, and arrived at the bank of the Nairañjanā River. He saw the delightful Neu-sing, adorned with dense forests and various kinds of trees, and thought, "I should abandon my dwelling in this forest." So he sat down under a tree. There, he pressed his teeth against his teeth, his tongue against his palate, and held his mind with his mind, concentrating so intensely that the pores of his hair
