thought. If the food were piled up and poured into it, it could hold enough food to satisfy a thousand people, and it was blessed to be full. He said, 'Ascetic Gautama, the vessel is full, now please enjoy it.' Then, the Blessed One performed a miracle, and all the people, including the Brahmin, saw a thousand monks also present there. The Blessed One and his retinue enjoyed the food in the Brahmin's filled vessel. The Brahmin also developed great faith and, after offering alms to the Blessed One and his retinue, finally offered clothes worth a million to the teacher, and also offered each of the monks a set of clothes, and prayed to attain the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. He was also prophesied to attain the unsurpassed enlightenment. Those 16-269 and so on, have generated the mind of enlightenment and made prayers in the past and future. There are countless prophecies as well. The Ninety-ninth: Explaining the Causes of Non-Decline. The Ninety-ninth: Explaining the Causes of Non-Decline is: Then the Teacher went to Rajagriha and stayed in the grove of light. One should relate the story of the passing away of one of the supreme pair. Then, when the Teacher was staying on Vulture Peak Mountain, King Ajatashatru sent the Brahmin Vassakara to the Teacher's presence and asked, 'If I were to completely eradicate the renunciates, what instructions do you have?' and said, 'Remember what the Blessed One has prophesied.' Vassakara also asked accordingly, and the Blessed One replied, 'I have explained seven causes for the renunciates not to decline.' The seven are: gathering frequently and abiding long in gatherings; abiding in harmony in going, staying, needs, and actions; not abandoning desires that should not be desired, acting according to the precepts; not approaching women who should not be approached; respecting elders and listening to their teachings; making offerings to stupas and not abandoning the original signs; and serving the Arhats of the land with faith.' The Blessed One said, 'If the renunciates possess even one of these conditions, Ajatashatru will not be able to overcome them, let alone possessing seven?' Then, the Brahmin Vassakara

Ong ngo. After gathering all the monks, He spoke of the seven causes for the Sangha not to decline. The first three are the same as the case of those who abandon. The remaining four are not being dominated by desire, revering the elder monks, dwelling in secluded places, and with faith revering and offering robes and so forth to those who practice the pure life. 16-270 Furthermore, he spoke of many sets of seven dharmas that do not decline, and six dharmas that cause all joy. The Hundred and Tenth: Proceeding on the Broad Path The Hundred and Tenth: Proceeding on the Broad Path: Then, as the Broad Ones sent messengers to invite him, from Vulture Peak Mountain he went to the village of the Light-Bearing Staff, and stayed one night. The next morning, he went to the city of Red Son, and to the householders living there he spoke of the five faults of heedlessness: losing enjoyment, feeling ashamed in gatherings, having a bad reputation, regretting oneself, and going to the lower realms after death. For the heedful, he spoke of the five benefits opposite to these. That night, the householders requested him to stay there, so he stayed in the dwelling of Red Son. At that time, the Brahmin Summer-Maker, in order to destroy those who abandon, was building a city in Red Son. Because the gods were powerful, they would mix things up, it would become the pinnacle of cities, and it was prophesied that three fears would arise, all as before. Moreover, the previous event related to the northern taming was only the building of the city of Red Son. Here it says that it was to destroy those who abandon, because it was building fortresses, strongholds, and battle equipment, so that is the difference. The next morning, the Brahmin Summer-Maker offered an umbrella, and requested that merit be dedicated for the sake of the residents of the city of Red Son, and the Teacher also did so, and then from the center of the city he went to the west gate. After going outside the city, he turned north, and from the near shore of the Ganges he disappeared, and on the far shore he appeared in an instant, departing with such miraculous powers.
