"The ascetic Gautama is revered and served by all the great kings, so we, the small border kingdoms, should also attend to him," he thought, and went to the Buddha, prostrated, and requested to serve him for three months. He returned to the palace and said to his family, "For three months, prepare daily eighteen kinds of food and various vegetables, enough food to satisfy five hundred people." And he proclaimed in the city, "No one else is allowed to offer umbrellas or vegetables to Gautama. If they do, they will be punished." That night, King Fire-Giving dreamed that his own intestines were wrapped around the city of the enemy territory. Awakening, he was frightened and asked the fortune-telling Brahmin, who knew it was a good omen. But thinking that if he said it was a good omen, this person might become even more devoted to Gautama, he said, "This dream is a bad omen, it will lead to the loss of the kingdom or a threat to life." He said, "What can be done about this? If he stays in a place unseen by people for three months, it will not happen." Then King Fire-Giving said, "For three months, no one should come to me," and he stayed in a hidden place. The next morning, the venerable Ananda went to the king's gate and saw the people looking dejected. He asked, "Have you not invited the Buddha and the Sangha?" They said, "He said to prepare food, but he didn't say for whom, so we dare not ask now." After reporting this to the Teacher, the Teacher said, "Go and ask in the cities, is there anyone willing to offer alms to the Buddha and the Sangha for three months?" Go and inquire. When Ananda proclaimed this, those people said, "We are very willing, but we are forbidden by the cruel king." At that time, a merchant came from the north, loading goods on five hundred horses, and arrived in the enemy territory.

Ananda entrusted the matter to her, and she said: "If you could say a few words of Dharma for my sake, I would do it." The daughter said: "What is a Buddha?" Ananda thought: "This woman will not understand the profound Dharma of the Buddha. It is better to praise the Chakravartin King." So he extensively narrated the story of the Chakravartin King. The story of the Chakravartin King was finished, and before he could praise the greatness of the Buddha himself, the work of the barley was finished. So she made a vow: "May I, by this virtue, become the noble queen of the Chakravartin King." This matter was reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed: "Ananda, you are wrong. If you had told her the virtues of the Buddha, she would have attained the state of non-retrogression. However, she will become the queen of the Chakravartin King." After hearing this prophecy, the five hundred daughters who were doing the barley work in the Sangha, minus two, all vowed to become attendants of the Jewel Queen. At that time, Ananda shed tears and asked: "Blessed One, you have given away even your own body from the past to the present, do we still have to eat rotten barley?" On the way, the evil demon transformed into Ananda and said, 'O Lord, the gods are offering nectar to the Sangha, turn back!' However, they did not turn back and continued on. The demon caused a great rain to fall, and the water submerged the axles of the carts, making it impossible to proceed. Thus, three months passed, and the charioteer prayed a good prayer: 'May I become a Chakravartin king! The intelligent horse is the eldest son and heir to the throne, the five hundred horses are five hundred sons, and the queen who is prophesied is the holy queen, and the five hundred daughters also become her retinue!' The Lord also prophesied that it would come to pass. When the three months had passed, King Fire Offering also returned and read and listened to the letters and messages sent by the border kingdoms. All of them said, 'You promised to offer alms to the Lord for three months, but you did not offer them, but instead offered barley for the horses to eat.' The Lord said to Ananda, 'Go to Fire Offering and tell him that you have stayed in your country for three months and are now leaving.' Ananda did so, and the king said, 'Is the alms milk? Is the word of the border kingdoms true?' When he recounted what had happened, the king fainted, and after being revived with water, he said to his family, 'Did I not order you to prepare such food?' They said, 'Yes, you ordered it, and we prepare food every day, but we don't know who it is offered to.' Then King Fire Offering went before the Lord to confess his faults and requested to serve him for as long as he lived, but the Lord did not grant it, but instead granted seven years.
