However, because we were not invited, we were unable to make offerings, and we will regret it later and feel guilty. You go and invite them, saying that the Tathagata will pass into Nirvana at midnight tonight, so you should do what you need to do. In this way, Ananda also did so. The giants of the grassland, with their respective children, wives, and other relatives, came before the Tathagata to behold his face and make offerings. The Buddha satisfied them with the Dharma that suited their respective minds. Those giants wanted to take refuge and observe the five precepts, so the Buddha instructed Ananda to administer the precepts to them. Knowing that it would be impossible to complete if the precepts were administered one by one, he asked the Buddha for permission, and the Buddha granted it. Thus, the lay precepts were administered to five hundred giants at the same time. Chapter One Hundred and Sixteen: Taming Delightful Joy Chapter One Hundred and Sixteen: Taming Delightful Joy: After that, the Bhagavan thought, "Now, for the sake of taming those to be tamed, only two remain, namely Delightful Joy and Excellent Joy. The wandering ascetic Excellent Joy is easier to tame because he is dedicated to taming his own mind. But the king of the Gandharvas, Delightful Joy, is difficult to tame. The disciples of the Shravakas can be tamed by the Buddha, but the disciples of the Buddha cannot be tamed by the Shravakas. The Bhagavan thought, "After my Nirvana, Delightful Joy will not be able to be tamed by others." The king of the Gandharvas, Delightful Joy, was a friend of Indra. From the time the Bodhisattva entered his mother's womb until his final sleep, Indra repeatedly urged him to go to the Teacher to make offerings, but he arrogantly said, "कौशिक (Sanskrit Devanagari: कौशिक, Sanskrit Romanization: kauśika, Chinese literal meaning: कौशिक) कौशिक (Sanskrit Devanagari: कौशिक, Sanskrit Romanization: kauśika, Chinese literal meaning: कौशिक), you go, I want to sing for a while." Therefore, he did not go. At that time, the Bhagavan left an emanation of his body in the sleeping chamber, and holding a lute made of lapis lazuli with a thousand strings, he came in a form that Delightful Joy could see, near the abode of the Thirty-Three, to the gate of the palace of the Gandharva Delightful Joy. There, the gatekeeper reported to Delightful Joy. Delightful Joy arrogantly thought, "Is there a Gandharva stronger than me?" So he immediately came out and competed with the Bhagavan in playing the lute.

Playing and singing, there was no difference in sound. Then he broke one string, broke two strings, until finally he broke nine hundred and ninety-nine strings, and even competed to play one string. Then, Rabga broke the only remaining string, and no sound was produced. But the Blessed One's string produced sound as before, and (Rabga) thought: It seems that there is a more excellent Gandharva than me, and his arrogance disappeared. There, the Blessed One personally appeared and taught the Dharma, (Rabga) attained the Stream-entry fruit, took refuge, and took the precepts. The One Hundred and Seventeenth: Taming Rabzang The One Hundred and Seventeenth: Taming Rabzang: Then (the Buddha) disappeared there and went to the grassland. At that time, there was a wandering ascetic named Rabzang, who was one hundred and twenty years old, and was revered as an Arhat by the people of that place. He lived during the day in a grove of Udumbara trees on the bank of a slowly flowing pond. 16-282 When he saw the Teacher entering the womb, the buds of the Udumbara flowers appeared like frog's eyes. At birth, the frog's eyes opened. When he was young and playing, the buds bloomed. When he was practicing austerities, the buds lengthened slightly. When he became enlightened, the flowers bloomed. When he turned the wheel of Dharma, the flowers were bright and dazzling. When he was on his final resting place, the flowers appeared very old. The gods also heard that "the Teacher will pass away tonight," and thought: I will dispel my doubts. He went to the grove of twin Sala trees and met Ananda, who was wandering outside. (Rabzang said to Ananda:) "If I hear that the Shramana Gautama will pass away tonight, I have some doubts that I would like to ask." As Rabzang said these words, Ananda stopped him, saying, "Do not offend the Tathagata." Rabzang said it three times, and Ananda stopped him each time. The Tathagata heard it and said, "This is the last time I will speak with a heretic, let him in." Rabzang was brought in. He also raised his questions, and the Buddha taught, "Rabzang, I left home at the age of twenty-nine, and for more than fifty years since then, I have explained what is good. Rabzang, when I left home, I based myself on discipline, meditation, and wisdom."
