That was taught by the departed. Thus it is said, all the dharmas of the path to enlightenment are included in that which is to be meditated upon, and it is not to be meditated upon separately. Thus, the nature of non-duality of bliss and emptiness is suchness itself. In terms of cause, it is the object of the four mindfulnesses; in terms of result, it is the fruit of the path to enlightenment; the thirty-seven factors are explained as the means. Therefore, it is shown to be different from what is found in the sutras, and in the Engaging in Bodhisattva Behavior, it is also said that the mantra system needs to be adorned with great bliss. These detailed classifications of the uncommon factors of enlightenment are the intentions of the wise and accomplished ones of the sacred land of India, and the yoga of the Chakrasamvara here is very prevalent. It is arranged according to the tradition of the oral instruction schools such as Lo Chung Mar Gyo, and it seems to be meaningful and concise. Later scholars have not seen such distinctions, but have established some subtle and difficult-to-understand self-views, and then proclaimed great self-praise, causing confusion to the students. Sixth, regarding the four means of gathering, namely the nature of the four means of gathering, the definite number, the function, and the reasons why those who gather retinues must rely on them. First, generosity is to satisfy the disciples with material things. Pleasant speech is to explain the meaning of the six perfections without distortion. Beneficial conduct is to engage the disciples in its practice. Consistent conduct is to practice in the same way oneself. Second, first, generosity makes the disciples desire; pleasant speech makes the disciples who desire know what to practice; beneficial conduct makes them practice as they know; and consistent conduct makes those who have engaged in practice not turn back. Therefore, these four are necessary to tame the disciples. Third, because they like the speaker, they are suitable vessels for listening to the Dharma; because they have faith in the Dharma and understand the meaning, they cut off doubts; they practice as taught; and their practice also increases and becomes purer and purer, these are applied in order. Fourth, benefiting others is also gathered by two things, material things and Dharma, the former is generosity, and the latter is the other three. Seventh, regarding tranquility and insight, etc.

The benefits of meditation. Among the four: the reasons for meditation, its essence, and how to practice it, the first is: all samadhi is contained within these two, and shamatha is the antidote to suppressing what should be abandoned, and is necessary for accomplishing qualities such as clairvoyance, and seeing deities is to abandon the seeds, and is necessary for the liberation of the mind stream. The second is: without vipassana, one cannot directly realize the nature of reality; without shamatha, the mind will be moved by discursive thoughts, so vipassana will not abide for long. The third is: vipassana relies on the object of focus, it is the wisdom that distinguishes the dharmas of suchness and the extent of suchness, and is the wisdom that completely examines, because it sees the state of the object surpassingly, it is called vipassana. Shamatha is one-pointedness of mind, clear and without thought, free from the faults of sinking and excitement, because discursive thoughts move towards objects, shamatha abides on the object of focus, so it is called shamatha. As it says in the Samdhinirmocana Sutra: "Shamatha is one-pointedness of mind. Vipassana is the correct discernment of each individually." The fourth has two parts, the first is how to train in shamatha: first, rely on the six conditions for shamatha, namely, residing in a suitable place, having few desires, being content, abandoning many activities, having pure morality, and abandoning discursive thoughts such as desire. The second is the method of practice: relying on the eight applications that abandon the five faults, which will be discussed below. Therefore, the stages of shamatha are the nine mental abidings, first, focusing the mind on the object is placing the mind; that which is continuous is continuous placement; when the mind wanders elsewhere due to discursive thoughts, cutting off that wandering and again focusing the mind on the object is re-placing the mind; again, continuously practicing is close placement; if meditation becomes tedious, remembering the benefits of samadhi and then meditating again is taming; if one is distracted by external circumstances, remembering the faults of distraction, such as this distraction previously and now makes my mind unusable, etc., thereby becoming weary of distraction, and then evenly abiding on the object is pacifying.
