And, the Bodhisattva's root downfalls, coarse transgressions and violations, and the precepts of the mantras that will appear below, which I (in the past) have transgressed. Here is the characteristic of the Bodhisattva's mind-training, so, all the misdeeds done by other sentient beings should also be confessed only with the mind. Secondly, explaining the downfalls of not abandoning the vows that should be abandoned, and the downfalls of not practicing what should be practiced, {the incomplete path is added to the continuum.}. First, the general meaning is the limbs of the downfalls, the classification of the downfalls, the order, the reason for needing to protect, the method of not arising, how to remedy if it arises, and which scripture it comes from, these seven aspects. First, it must have five limbs, namely, the limb of the basis, the limb of the place, the limb of the intention, the limb of the action, and the limb of the ultimate. The first is, it must be a vow within the secret mantra that has been obtained and not lost, and that naturally abides. Even if the mantra vow has not been obtained, it may only be a fault. Because it has not been established, for those who have broken the vow, doing these again, the sin is extremely great, but because the vow has already been broken, those two will not become root downfalls. For those who do not naturally abide, it is difficult to arise with an undistorted recognition, and because there is no intention, the actual practice of the downfalls will not be complete. Secondly, from the Vajra Master to the woman, from the untrained consort to the activities of the mandala, correspond separately. Thirdly, there are two types, intention and recognition, of which the first has two types. The essence is any of the four causes of the downfalls mentioned above. Specifically, there is no shame at the time of the action of each downfall, no antidote at the time of the actual practice, and no regret at the time of the aftermath, these three, or wanting to do it again and again, and liking it, not regretting it, and not remedying it, possessing four characteristics. Therefore, deliberately intending to possess four characteristics, or three characteristics, is the characteristic of initiating all root downfalls. Having no shame means not thinking that relying on this will cause faults to arise. Having no antidote means the continuation of wanting to do it.

Without interruption. Without regret means that in the moment immediately after something is done, no regret arises for the action. If this happens, for example, if a transgression is committed in the morning and regret arises only in the evening, it does not constitute a root downfall. Doing it again and again means that the desire to do it arises repeatedly, and the desire to do it does not disappear until it is done. Taking delight in doing it means that the mind is satisfied when it is able to do it. Not regretting means not regarding that transgression as a fault. Not amending means that at the moment immediately after it is done, there is no hesitation to amend it. In general, these distinctions apply to all the transgressions mentioned here, but it is not necessary for all of them to be present for it to become a root downfall. For example, even without regret and not amending, such as killing a vajra brother or a teacher. Furthermore, there are similar situations with some actions of body and speech. Although these sins are very serious, one might wonder if they do not receive the name of actual root downfall because they do not possess all the conditions. Here, since the emphasis is mainly on the precepts of the mind, it does not depend on whether or not subtle conditions are present, but rather because all the main meanings are present. Therefore, it is necessary to understand in detail the distinction between having to possess all the distinctions and each distinction being sufficient. Secondly, recognition is the correct and unmistaken understanding of that thing. Fourthly, the limb of action is doing this and that, from despising and reviling to engaging in the activities of the mandala. Fifthly, the ultimate point is the times when completing this and that results in a root downfall, such as understanding the contempt of others, and up to the completion of one activity of the mandala. The second part consists of three aspects: classification, summary, and final analysis. The first aspect is that although there are many vows to be kept in this Vajrayana, when classifying transgressions, there are only two types: root downfalls and coarse downfalls. Therefore, they are classified into two types: root downfalls and coarse downfalls along with their associated categories. Coarse downfalls are also limbs in the sense of root downfalls. Regarding the meaning of the term "root downfall," if it is kept, it is the root of accomplishment; if it is not kept, it is the root of fault, as the previous lamas have said. <The later great chariot is omniscient.
