Therefore, it only appears on the level of consciousness, and it will transform into an appearance without a basis of its own nature. Secondly, regard the image of Vajrasattva's body appearing in the mirror as the object grasped by the mind. Praise or disparagement of it, etc., are the same as before. When a slight experience arises from this, place it in the middle and recognize it as an illusion. Stabilize this as well and dissolve into it, so that the form of your own yidam deity becomes like an image in a mirror. Knowing it to be unreal like an illusion, abide together with it right there. Thirdly, training in the branch liberation, in the state of your own deity body, father and mother, like an illusion, by vigorously practicing life force exertion and vase breathing, the illusory liberation of various experiences will arise. In particular, focusing on the bindu Asha (Tibetan: ཨ་ཤད་, Sanskrit Devanagari: अशद्, Sanskrit Romanization: ashad, Chinese literal meaning: Asha) in the heart, and striving with the breath, even when awake, it will appear like various liberation dreams. In this way, there are four contemplation methods for the chapter on illusory appearances. Secondly, regarding dream illusion, there are three: grasping, training, and unification. Firstly, there are two types: grasping with continuous mindfulness during the day, and forcibly grasping with instructions at night. The first is to strictly seclude oneself in a solitary place, generate a strong aversion to the suffering of samsara, thinking that sentient beings mistakenly grasp all phenomena as real, like illusions, which is truly pitiful. And also vigorously train during sessions, thinking that although all phenomena appear, they are not real, but like illusions. In particular, no matter what you do, whether walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, constantly remember: I am dreaming, walking, standing, etc., are all dreams. Secondly, before going to bed, practice Guru Yoga, and pray for blessings that I may have many dreams tonight, blessings that I may have clear dreams, blessings that I may have good dreams, blessings that I may recognize dreams as dreams. After praying in this way, the Guru dissolves into light and merges into oneself. Visualize the four-petaled lotus at the throat, with A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: A) on the front petal, Nu (Tibetan: ནུ, Sanskrit Devanagari: नु, Sanskrit Romanization: nu, Chinese literal meaning: Nu) on the right, Ta (Tibetan: ཏ, Sanskrit Devanagari: त, Sanskrit Romanization: ta, Chinese literal meaning: Ta) on the back, Ra (Tibetan: ར, Sanskrit Devanagari: र, Sanskrit Romanization: ra, Chinese literal meaning: Ra) on the left, and a red Asha (Tibetan: ཨ་ཤད་, Sanskrit Devanagari: अशद्, Sanskrit Romanization: ashad, Chinese literal meaning: Asha) in the center. Pray that I may have many dreams tonight, that I may have clear dreams, that I may recognize dreams as dreams.

One should repeatedly generate the aspiration to recognize (the dream state) in dreams. Then, lie down in the lion posture, with the head facing north and the right side down. First, focus on A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Literal meaning: A). When desiring to sleep, focus on Nu (Tibetan: ནུ, Sanskrit Devanagari: नु, Sanskrit Romanization: nu, Literal meaning: Nu). When slightly drowsy, focus on Ta (Tibetan: ཏ, Sanskrit Devanagari: त, Sanskrit Romanization: ta, Literal meaning: Ta). When more drowsy, focus on Ra (Tibetan: ར, Sanskrit Devanagari: र, Sanskrit Romanization: ra, Literal meaning: Ra). When completely falling asleep, focus on Ashad (Tibetan: ཨ་ཤད, Sanskrit Devanagari: अश, Sanskrit Romanization: asha, Literal meaning: Ashad). Although it is said like this, for beginners, it is best to practice the previous methods more diligently, repeatedly, and then focus on Ashad (Tibetan: ཨ་ཤད, Sanskrit Devanagari: अश, Sanskrit Romanization: asha, Literal meaning: Ashad). Alternatively, in the throat, (visualize) the Wisdom Hero (instead of) Ashad (Tibetan: ཨ་ཤད, Sanskrit Devanagari: अश, Sanskrit Romanization: asha, Literal meaning: Ashad). At its heart is a bindu (drop). From that (bindu) emanates light, filling the entire body with bliss. The two heroes dissolve into the bindu. Focus on that with aspiration. These two methods are optional. If it is not successful in the first session, when slightly awake, think: It is not good that I did not grasp the dream this time. Now I must grasp it no matter what, and generate a strong aspiration. Focus on Anuttara (Tibetan: ཨ་ནུ་ཏ་ར, Sanskrit Devanagari: अनुत्तर, Sanskrit Romanization: anuttara, Literal meaning: Supreme) and then go to sleep. When waking up again there, do as before. By meditating in this way repeatedly, one will be able to grasp the dream. If one practices for a long time but still cannot grasp it, it is distraction. There are four types of distraction: empty distraction, suffering distraction, waking distraction, and lazy distraction. The first is: not dreaming. For this situation, when going to sleep, hold the vase breath (kumbhaka) many times. Focus strongly on Anuttara (Tibetan: ཨ་ནུ་ཏ་ར, Sanskrit Devanagari: अनुत्तर, Sanskrit Romanization: anuttara, Literal meaning: Supreme), or visualize a red bindu as a cushion. Between each person's cushion, visualize a red bindu the size of a pea, or visualize it becoming redder and redder until it covers the entire cushion. Focus strongly on Ashad (Tibetan: ཨ་ཤད, Sanskrit Devanagari: अश, Sanskrit Romanization: asha, Literal meaning: Ashad) in the throat. Generate a strong aspiration to dream, and this will eliminate (empty distraction). The second is: although one dreams, one cannot recognize it at all, which is suffering distraction or confused distraction. During the day, focus strongly on Anuttara (Tibetan: ཨ་ནུ་ཏ་ར, Sanskrit Devanagari: अनुत्तर, Sanskrit Romanization: anuttara, Literal meaning: Supreme) in the throat. Always maintain the aspiration to recognize the dream. When going to sleep, generate the aspiration no less than seven times, and this will eliminate (suffering distraction). If this still does not work, focus on the space between the eyebrows, visualizing a red bindu the size of a soybean, and continuously practice the aspiration to grasp the dream. Especially when going to sleep, generate the aspiration no less than eleven times. If this still does not work, then in the morning, recognize that all of this present appearance is like a dream. Previously, one did not know this and clung to it as real, but now recognize that it is unreal.
