In this regard, saying: Apart from the six consciousnesses, does an ālaya-vijñāna exist as an object of knowledge or not? If it exists, what is the reason why it is never allowed to be discussed in the Guhyasamāja Root Tantra? If it does not exist, then it is unreasonable for the appearances, etc., mentioned here to be the same as the ālaya and the afflicted mind, because apart from the six consciousnesses, the ālaya and the afflicted mind cannot exist as objects of knowledge. It is reasonable to say this. What is the use of citing the contradiction with the treatises of the Yogācāra school as a reason? If that treatise is without error, then the ālaya and the afflicted mind of the eight consciousnesses will exist. If it does not conform to valid cognition, then it is not so, because it contradicts what is said there. What is the point of writing this? Even if it contradicts that statement, it may still be so, because that conclusion would follow. Although the author of the Commentary on the Entrance [to the Middle Way] and the author of the Lamp Illuminating [the Thought] may be the same person, even the verses and single words have very different writing styles and expressions, so it can be determined that the realization or wisdom is different. There is no contradiction in the emergence of different tenets. In the sutra-based treatises such as the Compendium of Topics by the noble father and son (Asaṅga and Vasubandhu), there is no explicit denial of the ālaya-vijñāna. Moreover, since the Dharma is taught according to the minds of sentient beings, it is not necessary to conform to those Buddhist terms in every aspect. The reasons for their own system are as mentioned before. Therefore, some people here say that since they were composed by the noble father and son and Candrakīrti, it is necessary to conform to the Entrance [to the Middle Way], etc., including the Compendium of Topics, because the author is the same and is a proponent of a tenet with deeply established certainty. To say this is a conceptualization inferior to Redawa Shönnu Lodrö (1349-1412), is confused about the realm of the inconceivable, is using sophistry to cover up the noble ones, and is merely anxious about not letting the subtle points of one's own tenet collapse. If in the time of the noble father and son, all of India were followers of the Compendium of Topics, it is unreasonable, because many debates between the Śrāvakas and the Tīrthikas can be seen. There are all other beings to be tamed with different capacities, and the

There is no reason why there are only fortunate ones: There is not. Or not knowing the different thoughts of the beings to be tamed, or knowing but not being able to teach the Dharma in accordance with the faculties, then, because of not knowing, it will be greatly obscured; if one can but does not teach, then one will be negligent towards compassion. Therefore, in the treatises composed by him, there may also be errors due to not knowing, or knowing but not teaching as it is. If one teaches the Dharma in accordance with the thoughts of sentient beings, then what contradiction is there in teaching the eight aggregates of consciousness at other times? Just like the Buddha himself who teaches. Therefore, in the Tripitaka and the four tantras, etc., of the Greater and Lesser Vehicles, although there is only one ultimate intention, different classifications will arise in establishing the three bases, paths, and fruits of conventional truth. For the knowable, one will not teach what is impossible, but only methods for accomplishing temporary purposes will arise, and since the speaker is also the same person, there is no fault in not having multiple ways of teaching. Therefore, extracting the essence of many treatises from the scriptures is a great fault, know that! This is very superfluous. Secondly, the three appearances that occur at special times are: the most coarse and clear appearance is at the time of death; the medium appearance is oneself and at the time of intercourse; the subtle and unclear appearance is at all times when the coarse appearances of the six consciousnesses arise. Among them, at the time of death, the twenty-five coarse aspects are completely dissolved beforehand, which is what appears together with the five signs such as smoke. Until the wind dissolves into space, those that are able to perform the activities of the eighty natures of discrimination and action are those that dissolve together with the wind. The subtle discriminations that do not perform actions, however, remain mixed with the three appearances, so they are not dissolved at that time. In the treatises of the Noble Ones, the way in which space dissolves is not clearly stated, because it is the subtle element, that is, it is spoken of as being hidden within the wind. Therefore, without distinguishing space and consciousness separately, the wind dissolves into appearance, therefore the wisdom of the white light appearance related to the inner white essence; it dissolves into increase, therefore the wisdom of the red light increase related to the red essence; it dissolves into attainment
