Therefore, habits are left on the fundamental mind, and when those habits mature at other times, the beings of the six realms of samsara arise. If one does not understand this order of how samsara operates, even if one only explains the order of how the eight things at the time of birth and death dissolve and the order of how they arise, it seems that one will not understand the true essence of its meaning. How sentient beings appear in delusion, and how they experience it, and from the perspective of how the actual cause of that experience arises in samsara, it is accepted in a way that has not been examined or analyzed. If one examines the aspect of worldly purity with reason, just as it is said that forms and other objects are merely appearances of the mind, all of those are merely appearances of a single mind, and from the perspective of the three fundamental appearances, it is the very essence and the inexpressible nature. Moreover, that is also due to the power of the wind of habituation, from which the appearance of afflictions clearly arises from the cause, and as one's own wind dissolves, that clear continuity becomes unclear and turns into the state of a seed. Again, when the wind that produces the appearance of the fruit is stirred, birth and so on appear as the appearance of the fruit, and again, when the power of that wind dissolves and transforms into something else, it becomes abiding in the nature of habituation. Thus, the nature of the three fundamental minds, all aspects, through the power of the nature of the wind that moves with the same essence as oneself, the clarity and unclarity of the nature of the cause and the clarity and unclarity of the nature of the fruit arise sequentially in the minds of sentient beings. 5-352 Each part arises in an unmistakable sequence, which is the unfailing order of dependent origination. This fundamental mind, which has become the nature of the three appearances, increase, and attainment, is what is said in the sutras to be the Alaya-vijnana. Regarding this, many who are known as the Secret Assembly of Noble Dharma say that the characteristics of the three appearances spoken of during the time of mental quiescence and the characteristics of the Alaya and the afflicted mind spoken of in the treatises of the Yogacara school are inconsistent, so the three appearances and those are not the same thing. Saying this, in Chandrakirti's commentary on the Essence of Wisdom, the Root Four Verses Entering the Three Verses, it is thought that they do not consider the Alaya-vijnana to be something other than the six consciousnesses.
