These are called the "Three Kayas." Moreover, the essence is not different. For example, if we say, "Three forms made of gold," then the root or nature is gold, and the manifestations are the three forms. Just as there is no difference between the gold and the forms of the three golden forms, so too, there is absolutely no difference between self-awareness and the three appearances in this context. 5-344 Moreover, if we differentiate them from the perspective of not distinguishing between what is real and what is imputed, there are the three appearances of suchness of ultimate truth and the three appearances of dependent origination of conventional truth. Among these, the first is: the root is the dharmadhatu, one's own mind, great bliss, constant and unchanging. It is the great self-awareness of ultimate truth. To this, it is argued that if there is awareness, there must be both an object of awareness and a subject of awareness, and that it is not appropriate for oneself alone to have the activity of awareness, and that it is not permissible to arise as the nature of clarity from the moment of establishment, because it is not appropriate for clarity to exist without obscuration, and so on. Such imputations of faults are childish arguments made by those who only exert themselves in speculation. These become obstacles to the self-awareness of conventional truth, but they cannot obstruct ultimate truth, because they are free from the fault of contradiction. Even for those such as the self-awareness of conventional truth, it is the truth that is being refuted, but not merely self-awareness itself. In particular, a butter lamp is not meant to be illuminated, because it is unobscured. It seems that they believe that obscuration must precede clarity. However, these do not appear to be good wisdom, whether applied to the world or to the scriptures. Therefore, it is possible that some people have inserted other words into the words spoken by the supreme holy ones. The way in which the self-image of the nature of the essence of great bliss itself appears is that the secret of the body, which is inconceivable, is appearance; the secret of speech, which is inconceivable, is increase; the secret of mind, which is inconceivable, is attainment; and the great bliss that pervades everything, which was mentioned above, is all emptiness and luminosity. Those three kayas of all aspects are also not different; they are the equality of body, speech, and mind. This is the dharmata of the original ground, and the attainment of manifestation as the result, that is, what will be manifested and what will be attained, and as the path, 5-345 the object of meditation, is the basis, path, and fruit.

Although it is pervasive to all dharmas, its own nature transcends the three, ground, path, and fruition. These three appearances are not real, but because they are its dharma-nature, they are established as such. Secondly, the so-called three appearances of conventional dependent origination are known as the three appearances, the three wisdoms, and the three consciousnesses. If divided, there are two: the three appearances with self-nature, and the three appearances without self-nature. Whether with or without self-nature, they are also with or without afflictive thoughts. The first can be divided into: the three appearances of the ground stage, and the three appearances of the path stage. The ground stage can be further divided into: the three constant appearances, and the three appearances that arise in special times. The first of these is the three appearances of dharma-nature mentioned earlier. When they exist in a way that pervades all sentient beings, they arise from the minds of individual sentient beings like their tarnish. That is, the habit of craving for happiness, which has the ability to make the mind cling to objects, has three kinds of changes: the mind's self-awareness, which has the ability to manifest the appearance of the body, is appearance; the self-awareness that has the ability to manifest the appearance of speech is increasing appearance; the mind's self-awareness, which has the ability to manifest various appearances of mind, is obtained appearance. All three are only the conventional self-awareness and the part that looks inward. These three appearances are said in other tantras to be the seeds of happiness with change and leakage. Although the nature of all three is the nature of the alaya-consciousness, here, appearance is the cause of generating mind-consciousness and sense-consciousness, and increasing appearance is the cause of generating afflicted mind, so they are established as such. Obtained, from the perspective of the opposite of obtained, only abides in the nature of the alaya itself, and is generated indirectly, but in reality, it does not generate those seven consciousnesses, so it is only established as alaya. Therefore, the three appearances are shown as mind, intellect, and consciousness. Such three appearances are inseparable in nature and merge into one, and continue to flow uninterrupted until samsara is empty. As it is said in the Vajra Garland: "Supreme wisdom is the main, speech free from desire, etc..."
