From the perspective of the two stages of gathering and dispersing, both gathering and dissolving are stages of gathering. However, in relation to the two themselves, holding the sphere again is solely a stage of gathering. Subsequent dissolution is like merging oneself into the space where all external and internal contents are gathered into clear light. Therefore, it is also a stage of dispersing the wisdom of emptiness. Therefore, both of these together have the function of gathering impure appearances into clear light and abiding in it. Subsequent dissolution is for the sake of expanding the bliss and emptiness of the cause. Therefore, arising from the clear light, it also becomes the cause for expanding the mandala of the result. The previously mentioned example of gathering and dissolving is that if one meditates with clear focus, then in the stage of a beginner, a pleasing experience of emptiness and clarity will arise, and there will be freedom from illness, lightness of body, expulsion of internal and external parasites, strength in old age, and the coarse winds will slightly enter the coarse central channel, etc. If, in the stage of a beginner, one can grasp the clear light of sleep and combine it with tummo or subtle bindus, the effect will be even greater. However, if a yogi who abides in the stage of clear light thinks that recognizing the means of practicing the actual clear light is just a matter of subtle focus, it is like hearing that kings conquer enemies through rewards and armed combat, but thinking that it is like sewing with needles and thread. Therefore, those are just examples, but are mistaken for reality. The meaning of the words is: A disciple who has previously received instructions from a master, in order to gradually attain the actual clear light, should, after receiving the instructions, practice the two yogas for a long time. What are the two? They are gathering, which is the stage of holding one's own aggregates, etc., as clear light and controlling them; and similarly, following all appearances, which is the stage of repeatedly dissolving them into emptiness. By the power of innate coemergence, the winds and bindus of the seventy-two thousand channels gather at the head, that is, the crown chakra, then enter the central channel and descend to the jewel, and downwards.

The winds flowing between the soles of the feet are propelled by পশ্চাৎরাগ (藏文:རྗེས་ཆགས་,梵文天城体:पश्चात् राग,梵文罗马拟音:pascat rāga,汉语字面意思:随喜) and reverse upwards, dissolving into the central channel. Thus, the radiance of great desire blazes like fire, so that from the secret place to the heart, the radiance of wind and পশ্চাৎরাগ (藏文:རྗེས་ཆགས་,梵文天城体:पश्चात् राग,梵文罗马拟音:pascat rāga,汉语字面意思:随喜) causes the bindu to rise upwards from within the central channel. By meditating until reaching the crown and other respective places, one can cause a portion of one's own impure aggregates and elements, or the entirety, whichever is appropriate, to enter the true limit, that is, the clear light of reality. This is said to be the meditation of complete retention. Having preceded in such a way, by nourishing the phenomena of sentient beings that move and the inanimate world of objects with one's own great bliss, first dissolving them into the essence of clear light bliss-emptiness, and then dissolving one's own body into clear light in the same way from the outside, this is the sequence of subsequent dissolution. Moreover, starting from learning the sequence of clear light, until not entering the union of the clear light of meaning on the path of seeing, it is permissible for portions of the aggregates and elements to dissolve into clear light. However, the path of seeing together with union purifies the aggregates and elements of one's own continuum from the root. Whenever the two meditations alternately dissolve into clear light, although the manifestation of grasping and being grasped ceases in one's own appearance at that time, the aggregates and elements of one's own continuum are not actually purified. Similarly, when awakening from that, coarser appearances also arise and occur. The way in which appearances occur is as follows: the পশ্চাৎরাগ (藏文:རྗེས་ཆགས་,梵文天城体:पश्चात् राग,梵文罗马拟音:pascat rāga,汉语字面意思:随喜) of union with the consort, relying on the complete retention described above, causes the three appearances to enter clear light at the end. Again, from clear light, along with the three reversed appearances, one's own appearance as the deity arises. Again, propelled by পশ্চাৎরাগ (藏文:རྗེས་ཆགས་,梵文天城体:पश्चात् राग,梵文罗马拟音:pascat rāga,汉语字面意思:随喜), when the continuum of the experience of innate bliss, which was previously inseparable, becomes extremely vast and increases, one meditates on the subsequent dissolution that nourishes all appearances. Again, by entering the consort's পশ্চাৎরাগ (藏文:རྗེས་ཆགས་,梵文天城体:पश्चात् राग,梵文罗马拟音:pascat rāga,汉语字面意思:随喜), one dissolves through the sequence of the three appearances, and the fourth, clear light, will abide for a long time. Finally, from that clear light, along with the three reversed appearances, one's own body also arises as the deity, and appearances also arise as the deity. Then, one desires to meditate again and again.
