As stated in the Mother Tantra (Tibetan: མ་དཔལ་ཐིམ་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་སུ་བསྟན་པ་), and in the Vajra Garland (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་འཕྲེང་བ་), the "self-nature aggregate" is explained as the consciousness aggregate, these two have the same meaning. The so-called "second stage" refers to the stage of mind isolation. By what method? It is summarized by holding the essence, vajra recitation, and subsequent dissolution. To manifest the meaning of the mantra of emptiness (Tibetan: ཤུ་ནྱཱ་ཏ།), namely the wisdom of the six lineages, and the wisdom of the three vajras, as well as the definitive meaning of mantras and mudras, etc., many things have been said, but because the words are numerous, I will not elaborate on them here. Second, identifying the nature of the three appearances: The wisdom of mere self-awareness is like the sky, without characteristics. However, it has distinctions, namely the nature of night, day, and boundary. Appearance, the increase of appearance, and likewise, the near attainment of appearance. Thus it is said. In this way, the way of absorption of the twenty coarse and three subtle appearances has passed. Now, the three appearances themselves are to be explained, which is the main point of this section. The nature of these three wisdoms of the path is also the wisdom of mere self-awareness, and each one is also without elaboration in its own nature, like the sky, so there is no distinction of characteristics. However, from the way the images appear, there is a distinction, namely the first appearance with an image similar to the moonlit sky at night, and the increasing appearance with an image similar to the sky during the day, and the nature of the darkness of the boundary, that is, the near attainment of appearance with an image similar to this is also the same. The wisdom of the three joys of the practitioner who cannot correctly generate the samadhi of the completion stage is only the three appearances. But these characteristics that will be explained are not completely complete. The characteristics are stated in the Lamp Summarizing Conduct (Tibetan: སྤྱོད་བསྡུས་སྒྲོན་མེ་): "So, what is the characteristic of appearance? It is the nature without form, without body and speech. Just as in autumn, in the stainless sky, the light of the lunar disc appears and pervades. In the form of self-luminous nature, it focuses on all remaining things, so it is appearance. This is the ultimate bodhicitta, the first empty appearance of wisdom." 5-392 Thus it is said. The image does not

Having briefly indicated "the nature of attainment," it is explained in detail with "without body and speech": the disappearance of the aspects of the five faculties and the five consciousnesses is the absence of body. As it is said: "General statement and qualified sound, and thought are also one in meaning with it." Thus, the non-appearance of the aspects of sound and thought is the absence of speech. Since these are absent, the aspects of mind transformed by those body and speech are also absent. However, in general, it is not that there is no appearance to the mind; rather, the very clear nature of awareness itself, without partiality, focuses on all things and is present with a clear appearance. This is not merely the clarity of conditioned appearance, but the natural state of awareness itself. In that way of appearance of luminosity, because various aspects of stability and movement are focused upon, it is called aspects. For example, just as the sky, although empty of clouds and the like, can be pervaded by moonlight, so too, although there are no aspects of body and speech, it is not that there is no clear appearance of nature. This is also shown to be similar to the moon in terms of smallness and happiness. Again, it is said: "What is the characteristic of the increasing appearance? It is the formless body and speech that are free from grasping and being grasped. Just as in the autumn season, the rays of the sun pervade, so too, in the very clear and stainless essence, focusing on all things, is the second Samantabhadra of the mind of enlightenment, the second stage is said to be of the nature of extreme emptiness." Being free from grasping and being grasped means that at the time of the first appearance, the appearance of grasping and being grasped is manifestly present, but here it is not clearly manifest, so it is called freedom, which is a negation in inferiority, or it means freedom from clarity. Because the clear appearance is very great, and the experience of bliss and clarity is difficult to bear, it is similar to the rough and hot aspect, so the sunlight is used as an example, which is similar to the appearance of another nature. Again, it is said: "What is the attainment of appearance? Likewise, the nature of space is the nature of the absence of things, without body and speech. Just as it pervades the essence of falling into the darkness of the boundary, subtle and selfless, because life and effort do not flow, it is non-flowing, that is, without mind, unmoving, relying on the seed syllable of speech, the door is completely accomplished." This is called the attainment of appearance, which is the nature of ignorance, emptiness.
