How does one meditate? Shouldn't one place the mind at the tip of the nose between the eyebrows? If one abides in non-conceptualization, how can one direct the mind to the tip of the Avadhuti channel? If merely doing that leads to attainment, wouldn't it be the same as the Tirthikas and the Heshang Mahayana school? They say that all of these would be retracted. They themselves want to meditate by placing the mind in the gap of the central channel at the eyebrow level, like the hollow of a cut bamboo, while recognizing these as unreal. These are confused about the correct meditation and turn their backs on the definitive meaning. To them, it is said that many Tirthikas also engage in speculative meditation, similar to you. But some visualize the form of the Avadhuti channel and meditate by focusing on it, and various signs appear. You and they are mostly the same, but from the perspective of the manifestation of signs, they are superior. And we are not the same as you in the remaining characteristics. Some Tirthikas also meditate on non-conceptualization, but they are mistaken in terms of view and conduct, not in terms of non-conceptualization itself. The Heshang Mahayana is also not wrong in every aspect. How can a school be wrong just because the king's decree prohibits it? Moreover, all the factors that hinder study and reflection mentioned in the final part of Kamalashila's Stages of Meditation are not entirely applicable to their school. And in their school, there are also various pure arguments for study and reflection. Defeat in debate is also not necessarily a fault of a wrong school, because defeat in debate can also occur due to the debater's lack of expertise or accidental factors. Therefore, without clearly understanding the self-nature of other schools, one should not rashly say that this and that are the same. If there are no other hindering factors, merely being the same does not become any fault or merit. Furthermore, merely your intention will not become focusing on the central channel, nor will it become meditating on the emptiness of the Dharmadhatu.

Because the appearance of mind is merely a transformation contrived by thought, and the characterized signs that are imputed are merely mental fabrications. Furthermore, if one thinks that although what is meditated upon is conceptual thought, it is closely connected with the body, even so, although there may be a slight possibility of touching the essential point of the material central channel, it does not go towards the side of the wisdom central channel. In the explanations of the mind, the practice of meditating on letters, bindus, etc., with conceptual thought is disparaged, and meditating on space is praised. According to your view, if you identify that space as meditating on the empty space inside the channel with conceptual thought, then the explanations of the mind will become unreasonable. If it is reasonable, then meditating on the empty central channel without letters, bindus, etc., will become much more profound than meditating on the central channel with letters, bindus, etc., which is a very laughable situation. Therefore, here, our own system is that, in the Unwavering Supreme Yoga Tantra, it is said, "When the mind is bound, the wind is also bound." The great Brahmin also said, "If it is made like space, the wind is easily bound. If equality is fully realized, then liberation is attained." The meaning of these words, and the statement "placing the mind at the tip of the channel," is also the same as the instruction of the holy gurus, "the instruction of gathering the three points of the nose tip into one." This is because it possesses both the special key point of binding and the state of abiding in the inner space. Afterwards, the subtle wind will gradually dissolve into the sphere, and due to that dissolution, the consciousness obtained with subtle bliss, mixed with the inner space, immediately has the ability to gather the wind into the central channel, and immediately cuts off the connection with ordinary objects, and has the ability to clearly see the ten signs, etc. If one can abide in emptiness-form, then it is outside, and although it appears as appearing on another body, in reality it appears on the ultimate central channel. Therefore, abiding in that is the supreme method of gathering body and mind into the central channel. As an external condition for these, it is necessary for the blessings of the holy gurus who have generated experience on this path, starting from the Buddha himself, to enter without interruption, which depends on other conditions.
