will become a great accomplished one. Having said that, in general, regarding the main practice of the Completion Stage, although many distinctions are made regarding the four branches of approach and accomplishment, in this case, for the preliminary and main practices of the Completion Stage combined, it is necessary to count the four branches of approach and accomplishment as one complete set. Rather than considering the four independent preliminaries as the approach, the separate contemplation and life-force control of the main practice as the near accomplishment, the recollection as the accomplishment, and the samadhi as the great accomplishment, the preliminary is counted as one and the main practice as three. Because this clear tantric verse exists, thinking that there is no need for a separate instruction on the three solitudes or the four independent qualities, and abandoning it, not only will important key points be missing during practice, but also there will be a hasty decision without even examining the meaning of this tantric verse that is often recited from the mouth. Therefore, what is needed in this case is the first verse. Explaining its meaning, in the Vimalaprabha it says: Here, the beginner should first perform the approach with the ritual of the practice method, and the approach with the five ambrosias, etc. The external five ambrosias are, the explanations, etc., and the "etc." includes the Kukkula, etc., that is, eating those things to please the deities is the approach. The internal five ambrosias are, the five aggregates, and the "etc." includes the five faculties, which are the five lamps. Not depending on those is the approach, that is, completely abandoning attachment to the body and possessions. Through the approach, the deities will grant the supreme, not by eating feces, etc. The so-called water treasure vajras, etc., is that not depending on the enjoyment of the body, not depending on the enjoyment of speech, not depending on the enjoyment of the mind, and not depending on the enjoyment of transference is the approach, that is, the vows of body, speech, mind, and celibacy. That is the meaning. Through this, the deities will grant the supreme, not by clinging to the enjoyment of existence. As it is said, some scholars have given the name of the six independent qualities to this, saying that it is the unique preliminary of the Gathering Inward itself. If it is said to be the six independent qualities, it is also good because it agrees with the wording of the Great Commentary. From this, the Gathering Inward's

The limbs also arise sequentially, so there is no actual contradiction. However, it is not good to consider only the preliminary practice of gathering at the time of establishing the classification. Therefore, the masters of our tradition consider the six limbs to be a common preliminary practice, which is in accordance with reality. The reason for this is that the main practice of the six limbs is the yoga of the four vajras. Therefore, in order to lay the foundation for it, the four independent ones are also necessary, hence the saying "water treasury vajra." The yoga of the body vajra of recollection, which is independent of the enjoyment of the body; similarly, the speech that is independent of speech is the life-sustaining speech; the mind that is independent of mind is the recollection of the mind; and the yoga of the wisdom vajra of samadhi, which is independent of the enjoyment of transference, is the preliminary practice of laying the foundation. Therefore, it should not be combined with the preliminary practice of mere gathering. Although it is said that there are six categories of independence in terms of meaning, the two that are independent of the five aggregates and the five sense faculties are not included in the four independent ones. Moreover, the four independent ones are indicated by the symbols of the four vajras. Therefore, it is clear that explaining in terms of the number four is the main thing. The necessity of explaining the six categories separately is, for example, if one practices the deity yoga in the stage of generation, then the main practice is the four vajras as the path, and one meditates on the four limbs of approach and accomplishment. As components, one performs offerings and tormas, and observes the vows of eating, such as feast offerings. It is necessary to perform the approach by urging the mind-stream through the recitation of mantras. Similarly, here, for this solitary three-retreat of the deity approach of the completion stage, the main practice is the four independent ones, and the substitutes for offerings, tormas, and vows of eating are the two independent ones of the aggregates and faculties. The substitute for recitation is the taming of the coarse ordinary winds, as has been said. Therefore, for the preliminary practice of the completion stage, it is explained that the substitutes for this and that of the generation stage are complete. Even if the six categories of independence appear, the two categories of meaning, classification method, and category are merely the result of upward and downward induction. It is not the case that six are counted on one classification method and one whole. If that were the case, one would not say the five amritas and the water treasury vajra, but rather the five amritas, etc.
