When acting for the benefit of others, in order to powerfully accomplish the benefit of others, one obtains excellent higher states such as body, enjoyment, and power. Ultimately, one accomplishes the benefit of sentient beings through the two form bodies. The self-result of wisdom is: temporarily, when acting in samsara for the benefit of sentient beings, one acts with wisdom that is free from afflictions and skillful in means. Ultimately, one accomplishes the self-benefit of the Dharmakaya. Among these, what is definitely included in the accumulation of merit are generosity and discipline. What is definitely included in the accumulation of wisdom is wisdom. The other three perfections have aspects of both: in patience, not caring about harm and accepting suffering is merit; patience that definitely thinks about the Dharma is mainly wisdom. In diligence, there are both diligence in merit and diligence in wisdom. In meditation, focusing on the conventional is merit, and focusing on the ultimate is the accumulation of wisdom. This is the distinction between the two accumulations if they are distinguished from the perspective of temporary opposites. When one is seized by the perfection of wisdom, at that time, not only is it the Prajnaparamita, but the five perfections such as generosity are also the accumulation of wisdom. Therefore, there is also a time when everything transforms into the accumulation of wisdom. Just as the other five can produce the fruit of merit, because the fruit of merit can also increase from the Prajnaparamita, there is also a time when everything transforms into the accumulation of merit. Therefore, it is said that all six perfections are both merit and wisdom, which means that from the perspective of the reality or nature of the practice, the two accumulations are established as one. In general, if one considers the limits of Bodhisattva conduct, there are three situations: each alone, and a common basis where both are present. For example, generosity that is seized by bodhicitta but not by non-conceptual wisdom is pure merit; in the state of an ordinary being, abandoning the actions of body and speech and focusing solely on emptiness, such as samadhi, is a pure accumulation of wisdom; in the state of an ordinary being, generosity and so on that are seized by wisdom similar to non-conceptual wisdom, and compassion and so on that arise from the experience of emptiness, which have the aspect of elaboration.

And, the two accumulations such as emptiness like illusion are in accordance with the union of two, or the practice of union, or the cause, or the combination. The non-conceptual wisdom of the noble ones, the perfection of wisdom, and all the practices such as giving become of one taste, which is the actual union of the two accumulations and the basis of the two accumulations is the same. For example, the giving mind of a Bodhisattva makes sentient beings happy and mature, so it is also the accumulation of merit. Just this giving mind, in order to realize the emptiness of the objects of confrontation, mainly becoming the Dharma and the person, is also the accumulation of wisdom. With that, others can also be represented. At that time, the opposite of giving is merit, and that emptiness, from the opposite of awareness, is wisdom, but the giving mind and that emptiness are not different entities of awareness, but are one essence. This can be explained to others. Whatever is such merit and wisdom, it is also called accumulation because it is repeatedly practiced, constantly familiarized, and accomplishes all desires, which is also derived from the etymology of the Sanskrit language. The meaning is also present in Tibetan. Accumulation is a collection, that is, many, suitable for accumulation, and it is good to accumulate, so the name of accumulation is established for the things that need to be collected. In previous lives, the result of accumulating many accumulations of merit and wisdom, the great virtues of enjoyment, are easy to accomplish no matter how they are accomplished, but those who are not like this must strive to accomplish from small virtues. These are the common meanings of the two accumulations, but the uncommon special views of glorious Kalachakra and Mind Commentary also say three accumulations, namely the accumulation of merit, the accumulation of discipline, and the accumulation of wisdom. Merit is mainly to accomplish the benefit of others with great compassion, and the conduct is similar to the common ones such as giving. Also, from the perspective of the majority, the generation stage and the collection of activities and common achievements are special Dharma categories of Tantra. The accumulation of discipline is the melting bliss and immutability that appear in both the generation stage and the completion stage.
