Wishing to quickly apply collections and so forth to the conduct of a Bodhisattva. Here, there is only aspiration without engagement, but there is no engagement alone. A person who has the mind of engagement necessarily has the mind of aspiration. However, the subtleties of wisdom are not the same. In the two, self-other equality and exchange, equality is primary, and exchange is to eliminate its obstacles and enhance its benefits. Among them, equality is: I and all sentient beings are equal in being without inherent existence, and also equal in the single taste of Dharmata wisdom. The benefit of sentient beings is my own wish, so we are equal in wish. I and sentient beings are equal in desiring happiness, and equal in not wanting suffering. We are also equal in needing to accomplish happiness and needing to eliminate suffering. In not having the distinction of important and unimportant, and not having the distinction of cherished and uncherished, both are cherished, and are equal. Therefore, one wishes to attain Buddhahood oneself and then place all sentient beings in Buddhahood. Here, equality in importance does not mean putting all other sentient beings on one side and only myself being equal. Rather, any sentient being is equal to myself. If sentient beings become very numerous, then they are only more important than myself. Even so, sentient beings wish to attain enlightenment as I do, and I also wish to attain that enlightenment. Because the intention to apply to the same result is equal, it is self-other equality. Self-other exchange is: Samsaric beings only wish for their own happiness and well-being, and do not wish that for anyone else. Some other beings wish for suffering, and some remain neutral. Perhaps they wish for happiness for a few, such as relatives, but other than thinking that they are not as precious and important as oneself, Bodhisattvas, on the basis of themselves and others, exchange importance, not cherishing themselves, and holding any sentient being whatsoever as much more precious than themselves. For the sake of others' happiness, they are willing to engage in suffering themselves, and if they themselves are not liberated, a sentient being will be liberated first. If the method for my liberation is that that sentient being cannot be liberated for the time being, then I do not mind remaining in samsara and experiencing the suffering of samsara, and the mind...

Wishing to liberate that one first, one strives to find that method. Similarly, it can be applied to others, because in equality of self and others, there might be a slight mixture of thoughts for oneself. If one cultivates the exchange of self and others, it can eliminate these, thereby removing the obstacles to equality of self and others. For those who have not yet attained the state of equality of self and others, placing this here helps to mix them equally. The root is equality of self and others, although this exchange is a branch, most of the extraordinary actions of Bodhisattvas are accomplished through this exchange of self and others, and it is the supreme distinction of skillful means, so it is indispensable and very important, just as the king's affairs are done by the ministers. The third point is that, in terms of meaning, the ultimate reality of Suchness is called Bodhicitta, Suchness is the nature of Bodhi, and also the nature of mind. The word "of" here is the sixth case, indicating a collection of common ground. The wisdom of the path that realizes that Suchness is the wisdom that directly sees the nature of Bodhi and has it as its object. Therefore, it is called that. Conventional Bodhicitta refers to the mind and intention that aims at the attainment of complete Buddhahood and wishes that oneself and others can attain that state, therefore it is called Bodhicitta, and it is regarded as conventional Bodhicitta. The first two are ultimate Bodhicitta. Even so, Dharmadhatu is referred to as ultimate Bodhicitta, but the term generation of mind is not used. The other two are often referred to as ultimate generation of mind and conventional generation of mind. So, what is the difference between mind and generation of mind? There is no difference in terms of nature and essence, but the naming is done according to the difference in state. There are two definitions for the so-called generation of mind, one is to vow not to abandon the aspiration mind, and the other is to take the entering vows, which are called aspiration Bodhicitta and entering Bodhicitta. These two, the aspiration and entering Bodhisattvas, are very stable and powerful because they have given rise to the nature of ethics, and they are the basis of all qualities. Therefore, this generation of mind is the Bodhicitta that is vowed or accepted through rituals.
