It is narrow-minded to be displeased merely for not paying homage to the victorious ones and merely for refuting. It is not the act of a wise person. Therefore, if you hope to be a wise person, it is better to do something befitting a wise person. Thus, among many different lineages, the preliminary practices, the main practices, the beginning, the end, and the middle, the root pillar is established based on the oral instructions of the Dro tradition. This is because it is more extensive than all other oral instructions, and all the lineage lamas are accomplished ones who have realized the signs. Therefore, the blessings are incomparable. After that, the near lineage of Vibhuticandra is mainly relied upon. Because the instructions are profound and are new oral transmissions, the blessings are also great. Therefore, it is shown in a skillfully arranged manner in all three: the beginning, the end, and the middle. Furthermore, all the oral instructions of the various lineages are gathered in this glorious Jonang tradition. The general framework of practice is completely the same, so there is no need to show it in a repetitive way. In the case of life force practices and so on, the different and profound distinctions are arranged and gathered in categories. Thus, it is called having faith in the tantras and the gurus. The complete Buddhas have spoken it, the Bodhisattvas of the ten bhumis have explained it, the accomplished ones have meditated on it, the panditas have taught it, the translators have translated it, and all beings who have become reliable have valued it. The wise and accomplished virtuous friends who cherish the teachings of the Victorious Ones engage in listening, explaining, contemplating, and practicing, free from all sources of doubt and debate. It is a dharma that is famous in the three realms like the sun and the moon. It has not been altered by the wise, nor has it been adulterated by the foolish. It is the word of the Victorious Ones. 4-134 The meaning of the sutras and tantras is straightforward and frank. There is no need to seek refuge in unfounded nonsense, saying that it is experience, dreams, visions, treasures, and prophecies. It is not a collection of good and bad. It has not been artificially cut off. It has not been composed by some meditators for the sake of livelihood, nor has it been done by some lamas and leaders to confuse their retinues and patrons with deception and false dharma, and the mixture of wrong dharma has not entered at all. It is pure.

It is fortunate to enter such a profound path. What is meant by "believing in oneself" is that when one practices the Dharma and experiences arise that are in accordance with what is said, the student yogi himself gains genuine faith in the Dharma through experience. As it is said in the King of Root Tantras: "Abandon all thoughts, observe diligently for one day. If no signs arise, then my words are false." It is also said in the Hevajra Tantra: "Abandon all thoughts, with the mind visualize the deity's form, without interruption, diligently observe the meditation day and night. For the sake of accomplishing the benefit of oneself and others, there is no other method in samsara." Therefore, by focusing single-pointedly on the object of focus and becoming accustomed to practicing for one day and one night, it is necessary to be able to manifest the previous signs of the path at that very time, just as light must appear immediately when the sun rises. Otherwise, if signs appear later after practicing non-conceptualization and tummo for six months, a year, or three years, or if the lama prophesies that they will appear in that way, it is not pure self-belief and is not reasonable. If the first day's practice is the practice of the true reality, then it is reasonable for its signs to appear immediately. If that is not the practice of the true reality, because it has no difference from the object and image, then the later practices will also become untrue. If one thinks so, then your Dharma is indeed true in reality, but it is also unreasonable for correct signs to arise from prolonged habituation to the inverted path, and that sign is also a false sign. Then, the lamas and students who strive to habituate themselves to the inverted path for a long time are amazing and beyond words. Or, if the practice from the first day is pure, but its signs appear much later, then it is like saying, "The sun rises today, but the light appears tomorrow, how strange!" Therefore, if the root is good, practice for one session; if it is medium, practice for any one day or night; even the worst should practice for a whole day.
