and each part of the empowerment substances, visualizing them as pairs of deities, and relying on the five mothers to recite the mantra of the water empowerment, taking it as the basis for everything, etc., these are many elaborations. Furthermore, after individually empowering the disciples, inviting deities of the same family from the mandala in the heart of the front-generation deity, and merging them into the disciple's deity, although this is not a supplement to other rituals, some old Tibetan schools have treated it as a profound method. All later ones mistakenly believe this to be a special characteristic, and thus carry it over without any basis. Also, after each empowerment, visualizing the disciple's skandhas, elements, etc., as deities for the sake of the pure result of that empowerment is the self-tradition of this Dharma, and is also the view of the previous masters such as Ra and 'Bro. If this is prohibited and a generation stage practice that conforms to the common tradition is done, it is also abandoning one's own tradition and joining another, which is very unreasonable. If it is thought that other extensive commentators, even some Indians, also do this, then it fulfills the saying, "There are fools even in India." Even if one is proficient in the five sciences, one must recognize the phenomenon of claiming to be a scholar out of arrogance, yet distorting the meaning of the tantras. Fourth, some people, regarding the practice of visualizing both common and special deities, consider the location of the special deity to be uncertain. For example, for both water and crest jewel empowerments, the common deity is visualized as Body Vajra. During the water empowerment, if the disciple's five aggregates are meditated upon as the five mothers, and they are given the form of a deity with face and hands, then this is simply meditating on the five aggregates as deities, and there is no need to determine where to meditate, which is extremely contradictory. Because in that case, once the five mothers are visualized, the five mothers will develop pride, and thus Body Vajra cannot be visualized, which is also unreasonable, because the deity visualized for the sake of empowerment has no function. It is also unreasonable to melt Body Vajra into the five mothers, because there is no basis or reason. It is also not permissible to regard Body Vajra as oneself and the five mothers as the front-generation deity, because it is well known and established that empowering a disciple who is being empowered by the front-generation deity is not valid. Initially, it is Body Vajra himself, but later, when the five mothers develop pride,

It is not feasible to place one's own Vajra body externally. Simultaneously generating pride towards the five goddesses is merely conceptual meditation. It is difficult for beginners to visualize them in their minds. Therefore, it is unreasonable to generate the five consorts with faces and hands without a fixed location. Thus, if one abides in the form of one's own Vajra body and pride, do the five goddesses reside within one's own body, or do they reside externally? Even if they reside externally, a fixed location is necessary, because there is no location that is neither internal nor external. Furthermore, if one does not establish a fixed location for placement, it is better to merely engage in conceptual meditation without generating forms with faces and hands. For example, focusing on the interior of one's own body, one contemplates that all the solidity pervading it is Buddha Locana, and all the liquidity is Mamaki, and so on. In this regard, we establish a fixed location when meditating on the expanded form with faces and hands. Moreover, we believe that even without forms with faces and hands, merely through conceptual meditation, one can understand the generation stage of the seven empowerment deities. Although there is no fixed location at that time, you consider it unacceptable to be without faces and hands, so we are not the same. If one practices the generation stage in accordance with the object to be tamed without a fixed location, then the entire body, from the crown of the head to the soles of the feet, is pervaded by the yellow Buddha Locana with three faces and six arms. {Or one should meditate that there are white, red, three-faced, six-armed garments [places] there. Because one cannot control the object of focus, one cannot meditate in that way.} If one thinks that it does not matter even if it does not conform to the posture of the object to be tamed, that is absolutely not the case, which is what we agree with. For you, since this is the case, why do you consider it a fault to meditate on these special deities in a fixed location like a secret instruction? Therefore, after practicing without visualizing oneself completely, merely generating the five goddesses thereafter is not uncomfortable, but at this time, when generating one's own five elements as the forms of the five consorts with faces and hands, whether or not one generates one's own fundamental body as the deity, a fixed location is necessary for the five goddesses. Furthermore, it is not permissible to meditate outside of one's own body. If one meditates in that way, even with conch water, one cannot empower the disciple's body, but only empower the empty space outside the body where the goddess is meditated upon.
