It is because it corresponds to the letter 'a'. The vessel is a skull, meaning कपाल (kapāla, skull), symbolizing great bliss because it can protect happiness. Accumulating merit arises from the most excellent apex of the human body, and because it is a vessel that pleases Vajrakrodha and the Dakinis. Arising from the seed syllable ༀ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: ॐ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om), ༀ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: ॐ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om) means highly praised, virtuous, and auspicious, meaning that the substances within it are free from faults, and their power is virtuous and endowed with perfection. The five nectars inside, the samaya substances, arise from A, I, Ra, U, La, meaning they are the essence of the five aggregates, and they are established in relation to being the samaya substances of the five Buddha families. The meaning of nectar is that if the five elements present in one's own body are transformed into essence, one will become immortal. If one relies on them after they have been blessed by the power of purification, realization, and burning offerings, then those external elements will also have corresponding powers, and one will realize them as being of the same kind as the internal elements. In other tantras, the five nectars are often used as the samaya substances of the five mothers, but in this tantra, the five nectars are often said to be the five Buddhas, and the five meats are said to be the samaya substances of the mothers. The five meats, arising from the long vowel A, are the samaya substances of the five mothers, symbolizing that those five sentient beings are of the nature of the five elements respectively. The five meats are called the five lamps, and although everyone explains that they are called lamps because they make accomplishments manifest, the meaning cannot be understood by the words alone. It should be understood in this way: just as it is said in the world that eating meat increases strength and radiance, in reality, by pleasing the deities with the samaya substance of meat, the accomplishment that is obtained or will be obtained is also powerful and manifest, that is, the way of making it glorious, as stated in the Guhyasamaja. Ultimately, what the five meats symbolize is that the essence of the five elements is transformed into power, so that the unclear body of flesh and blood is purified, and the wisdom body, blazing with light and manifest, is obtained. That itself is called the five iron hooks, meaning to quickly attract accomplishments. Thus, these ten substances are general rough symbolic meanings, symbolizing the aggregates and elements, as explained in the case of the other thirty-six types, the differences in samaya substances.
