Besides, except for going to the patrons' places to beg for alms, when staying in my own monastery to practice and study, I usually enjoyed two or three bowls of tea. Other than that, I didn't do any farm work to fill my stomach. Not to mention the expectation of food and drink. When practicing, in order to prevent falling asleep in the evening, except for a slight rest at noon, I would go to the roof or outside to do virtuous deeds. When studying, I also often copied scriptures at night. In winter, I would also go outside in the evening, and in summer, I had to endure the heat at noon. All those who recited in the morning would tie their belts and put on their clothes before going out to recite, never lying lazily in bed. Although the lamas and teachers kept their love for us in their hearts, in order to eliminate our shortcomings and put us on the right path, they always scolded us, and sometimes even hit us, but we not only endured all this, but were also very happy, and from that time on, we knew that they were very kind to us. In the Dragon year (uncertain), I pretended to be in retreat at Samding Monastery. Hiding it from others, I changed my clothes into beggar's clothes and went to many springs and practice places. About two and a half months passed, and I visited about twenty practice places. A person named Tannyi Ser in the monastery secretly observed me, as if he was delivering tsampa. There were no other companions. Although Aku Lama and other companions did not understand, I did not listen to anyone. That holy lama and Rinpoche teacher, although he usually scolded me, this time said, "It turns out that practitioners should be like this, it's really amazing!" and was very happy. The sights and miracles at that time were unimaginable, how could they be expressed in words? I originally wanted to go to one hundred and eight practice places, but because of the title of "Living Buddha," I was unable to do so afterwards. When I was sick, I also had great endurance. When doing virtuous deeds, it was almost always at night, and I didn't pay attention to protecting my body, and I was tormented by many serious diseases. Due to the power of karma, I often suffered from rheumatism and other diseases, and later my body was very weak, but now

In between, mostly at night, the body wouldn't collapse, and there was great endurance against the onslaught of cold, hunger, and thirst. Among the lamas and teachers, it's clear to everyone that I'm not the most difficult to serve. If it required the same hardship as serving many other lamas, I wouldn't be the type to receive service either. This indicates that others think in their minds that he has been consuming offerings since childhood, thinking it's a great offering. But in reality, judging from what is said in the Dharma, neither have I attained great stages on the path, nor have I practiced according to the Dharma. Yet, I boast verbally that I have accomplishments. This is an example that doesn't conform to discipline and customs. Among the large and small monastics and laypeople who now bear the name of great lamas, there is no one poorer than me. My own mind is the witness, and those who know the story are also witnesses. Initially, during the time in Gyalkhampa (place name), I never accepted any valuable possessions. Tea, silk, cotton cloth, etc., were only exchanged. The extra odds and ends were only offered to the temples in Lhasa and other places, and given to the Sangha from all directions. Later, when a small amount of power arose according to circumstances, when things like monastic attire were needed, if you were to calculate the income and expenses, it would be about the same as only sending things out and not taking anything in. Occasionally, one or two items were exchanged, but I don't remember anything extra happening. Even if supported by food, clothing, and the three jewels of Dharma, they are not satisfied and want this and that, and there are also those who talk nonsense. As for needing to win over the minds of patrons and other worldly people, it's only occasionally that exchanges are made; otherwise, it's all about giving away. From the past until now, I have not been tainted by the wealth of monastics and patrons. My wealth has not gone to monastics or my own people. All the large and small items that the great patrons and respected figures have given me at various times have all been transformed into virtuous causes, as everyone has clearly seen. In general, not being attached to wealth is difficult, just like many other lamas. Not to mention those who are driven by partiality, ignorance, and attachment, and their own people or their own side. Everyone has been thoroughly deceived, including the living and the dead.
