Q: What is the Secret Mantra Vehicle (Tantra) like? A: That is a statement of incomprehension. As stated in 'The King of Empowerment': 'By combining the cause with the causal dharma, and turning the wheel extremely intensely, the Fruit Vehicle is a swift path, and will arise in the future.' It is certain that this is the vehicle mentioned in the scripture. Meaningful names include: This dharma is also called the Secret Mantra Vehicle, also called the Vajra Vehicle, and also called the Fruit Vehicle. First, mantra is called mantra 'Yamana' (藏文:ཡ་མ་ན།) means 'mind,' and 'Tratra Thala' (藏文:ཏྲ་ཏྲ་ཐ་ལ།) means 'to protect,' so that which protects the mind is mantra. There are two ways to protect: to protect swiftly and to protect with bliss. Swift protection refers to accumulating merit for countless eons in the Paramita and other paths, in order to ultimately attain Buddhahood. Here (in Tantra), one aspires to attain supreme achievement in one lifetime. As stated in 'The Buddha Samayoga Tantra': 'The actual body of the Buddha, which cannot be obtained in countless millions of eons, can be obtained in this very life through the rituals of this Secret Mantra.' Blissful protection refers to the fact that Hinayana practitioners renounce the five desires as if they were poison and thorns, and rely on asceticism to achieve liberation. Here (in Tantra), one achieves liberation by fully understanding the nature of the five desires and enjoying them as one pleases. As stated in the 'Guhyasamaja Tantra': 'Through enjoying the qualities of the five desires as one pleases, accomplishment is achieved.' It is called the Vajra Vehicle because the basis, path, and fruit of mantra do not deviate from the nature of Body Vajra, Speech Vajra, and Mind Vajra. Again, as stated in the 'Guhyasamaja Tantra': 'Desire, hatred, and ignorance, always abide in the Vajras. This is the method of the Buddhas, and is called the Vajra Vehicle.' It is called the Fruit Vehicle because other vehicles rely on other causes and the power of spiritual friends, and achieve different fruits by cultivating other causes. Here (in Tantra), because the basis is established without error, the fruit is the basis itself. All paths are antidotes to delusion, therefore it is called the Fruit Vehicle because it shows the equality of the three times. As stated in the 'Glorious Sambhuta Tantra': 'Difficult to find in countless eons, even for a diligent Buddha, it bestows it in this very life, therefore it is called the Fruit Vehicle.' The greatness of the Secret Mantra has been explained. Now, the second point: What is the particularly excellent intent of the tantras? There are four points: the nature of the tantra, and the explanation of the definition of the tantra. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are four views on the Tantra: the essence of the Tantra, the definition of the Tantra, the classification of the Tantra, and the correct explanation of the classification of the Tantra. The essence is: the self-nature mind that pervades all Samsara and Nirvana, the self-nature of co-emergent wisdom, which is connected and related to the three states. As it is said in the 'Glorious Cemetery Marvelous Tantra': 'In the nature of co-emergence, the essence of all Tantras is contained. Existence is the path accomplished by causes, manifestation is the manifestation of the fruit.' Also, the self-nature mind is co-emergent, which means that skillful means and wisdom are equally possessed. As it says: 'In the nature of co-emergence, the essence of all Tantras is contained. Existence is the path accomplished by causes, the nature of skillful means and wisdom is the Tantra. I will explain it, listen!' The definition of the Tantra is: Why is it called Tantra? In Sanskrit, Tantra is called 'Tantra' (藏文:ཏན་ཏྲ།,梵文天城体:तन्त्र,梵文罗马拟音:tantra,汉语字面意思:Continuum). Uninterrupted Continuum), because it is connected and continuous, it is called Tantra. As the 'Net of Illusion Tantra' says: 'The name Tantra means connection, which has three forms.' That is, when the basis is sentient beings, when the path is yogis, and when the fruit is the mindstream of Buddhas connected, it is called Tantra. Extensive Continuum) means the Tantra of increasing wisdom that is the antidote. This is not like the characteristic masters who cultivate ugliness to counteract desire. Here, it means that the nature of desire is bliss, the nature of hatred is clarity, and the nature of ignorance is non-discrimination. Therefore, by cultivating desire itself as the antidote to desire, one attains a supreme state. Just as 'fire can burn things, it can also burn itself.' Regarding its growth, it is said in the 'Net of Manifestation Tantra': 'Cause, path, and fruit, are continuously growing, hence called Tantra.' Self-characteristic Continuum) means that it is called Tantra because it holds its own characteristics. For example, when a silkworm spins silk from its mouth, it wraps itself and accomplishes both the work of food and clothing. Similarly, the teacher of the Tantra also speaks the Tantra, and the Vajradhara himself speaks the only meaning of his own nature, which is like a silkworm holding its own nature. As the 'Sambuta Tantra' says: 'Looking, playing, holding mudras, embracing, and dual union, etc., like the way a silkworm moves, the Tantra is explained in four ways.'
