The aforementioned four or six are fierce actions. Therefore, the fourteen activities mentioned here can be summarized into eight, and the directions, times, etc., should be explained separately. As it is said, it is necessary to understand well the first and fourth summaries in the Empowerment Chapter. If explained in detail, the text will become voluminous, so abandoning the tedious arguments refuting the inverted views of other schools, express one's own views concisely and make them easy to understand. Directions, etc., are the same as before. Direction refers to what was just said, such as eliminating epidemics, etc. The latter four are also places of vastness, etc., and should be carried out in each direction. If it is related to the mandala, then the direction in which the main deity faces should be taken as the east. In the eight directions of the great city of the king, there are cemeteries, so peaceful and increasing activities cannot be carried out anywhere. Therefore, they should be carried out in the actual directions of the inner king's palace and in those outside the ordinary city where there are no cemeteries. Time is as explained in the tantra commentaries, rotating clockwise from the north. Dividing day and night into eight periods, the four periods of the day are successively for pacifying, increasing, subjugating, and expelling, and the four periods of the night are successively for enchanting, bewildering, and paralyzing. If it is not possible to accomplish so much on one seat, then both day and night should be divided into eight periods, with the eight activities applied successively during the day and similarly during the night. Noon, midnight, dawn, and dusk, these four periods, as well as when Rahu and other malefic planets and inauspicious times appear, as stated in the sutras, should be avoided for pacifying and increasing activities, and should be understood as the time for carrying out fierce activities. Although objects are also needed, the determination of the directions and times for pacifying, increasing, subjugating, expelling, enchanting, bewildering, and paralyzing activities, like determining the elements, white, black, red, yellow, etc., as well as the colors of methods, etc., the color of the fire god, and the rays of light from the deity, are all the same. The thought is also similar to common practice, as stated in the ritual. The postures are the eight activities in order: the left leg bent, the right leg lying supine on its knee, this is the auspicious posture; both legs lying supine on their respective thighs, this is the vajra posture; the right knee placed on the left knee, and the instep of the foot also the same, or vice versa, this is the asura posture; the legs crossed, the buttocks sitting on the heels, the thighs and shins standing upright, this is the squatting posture; Left leg in the auspicious posture, right leg squatting; and vice versa; left leg... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then set up the excretory passage, the right side is the squatting posture, and the reverse of that. The nature of the stove is the moon, round, one cubit long; square, two cubits long, is twice the moon; Rāhu's nature is wind, is a crescent with two corners; the nature of both wind and fire is a pentagon, twelve fingers and twenty-four fingers respectively; the nature of fire is a triangle; the nature of both fire and earth is a heptagon, twenty fingers and forty fingers respectively; the nature of wind and earth is a hexagon; the nature of earth and Mount Meru is an octagon, thirty fingers and sixty fingers respectively. These directions become doubled from their respective boundaries. Here is the method of boundaries, and the understanding of directions. This is determined by thought, while the other reversals depend on the power of the body. Half of each is the measure of depth, and the pattern or line of lips and signs is one-twelfth, the opening is one-sixth, and the drooping edge is the same as that. There is no difference in making eight-petaled lotuses in the circles contained within each. The difference lies in: The outside of the signs and openings is the drooping edge, and at its end it is distinguished by the substance to be distributed. The sign is the center of the lotus, and the substance to be distributed is three-fifths of the center of the opening, which should also be made into a pattern. Thus, the signs are successively lotus, wheel, curved knife, sword, arrow, iron hook, snake, and iron fetter. The drooping edge: for pacifying and increasing, lotus petals; for killing, a pattern of human hands; for expelling, crow feathers; for subjugating, red lotus; for bewildering, arka leaves. Substances should be distributed, and for pacifying and increasing, the dūrvā grass with blue tips should be pointed to the east of the stove, and the other tips should be blessed and rotated. For killing, ashes of hair; for expelling, elemental tree leaves; for subjugating, red flowers; for bewildering, yellow flowers. Here some say that everything can be obtained from the pattern of lines, but there is no separate explanation for this. In short, the first statement that the pattern of signs is the same as the lips is a separate case. Adding the signs and lips together is the same as the opening, which is consistent with the general Vajrayāna. Outside of all eight, at a distance of two cubits, for the peaceful ones, the utpattikrama is performed from within, and for the wrathful ones, there are three reversed enclosures or walls. Each has a door on the west side, with a stable, which are described in these cases. The inner part also describes four doors. Inside the wall is two cubits. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
