Those extreme beings are none other than those monks who have become livestock, not understanding the nature of Dharma. Likewise, it is said that they will be born or will be born as pigeons, crows, monkeys, owls, worms in garbage heaps, dogs, cats, rats, hermaphrodites, hyenas, scorpions, venomous snakes, sheep, buffaloes, bears, Kalantaka birds, donkeys, Asuras, and hungry ghosts. In the Mahaparinirvana Sutra translated by Lha'i Zla Ba, it also says: 'Meditating on the Tathagatagarbha as non-self and constantly meditating on emptiness, suffering will not cease, just as a moth flies into a flame. Conversely, beings who meditate on the existence of the Tathagatagarbha, although afflictions exist, will prevent the manifestation of afflictions.' Furthermore, in the Compendium Sutra, it is said: 'Even if one has offered countless Buddhas in previous lives, if one does not believe in the Prajnaparamita of the Victorious Ones, a narrow-minded person who hears it will abandon it, and after abandoning it, being without refuge, will go to Avici hell. Therefore, if you want to touch the supreme wisdom of the Buddha, you should have faith in the Mother of the Victorious Ones.' Etc. All the faults mentioned about not believing in the Prajnaparamita and Dharmakaya, etc., will become the fault of not believing in the Tathagatagarbha, because they are of the same meaning. Now, explaining the benefits of having faith in it: Sixth, in the Angulimaliya Sutra, it says: 'Because of knowing that the Tathagatagarbha is eternal and exists in the hearts of all beings, all the supreme forms of happiness and abundance in the world will be obtained. By hearing that the Tathagatagarbha is eternal, all the perfections of the past, present, and future, and all the happiness of heaven and earth, will always be obtained.' Furthermore, 'If one does not hide the Tathagatagarbha and teaches it for the benefit of all beings, then he will obtain the divine eye and become one with the divine eye in the world.' Furthermore, 'The one who teaches the Tathagatagarbha, whether with or without afflictions, whoever it may be, is called the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha.' Etc. In the Ratnagotravibhāga, it also says: 'The Buddha-dhatu, the Buddha-bodhi, the Buddha-dharma, and the Buddha-karma, the pure beings...' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is also not something that can be grasped by conceptual thought; this is the realm of the Buddhas. A wise person who has faith in this Buddha-realm becomes a vessel of the qualities of the Buddha. By rejoicing in the collection of inconceivable qualities, one surpasses the merit of all sentient beings. Thus, it is said, one should have faith and respect for the essence of the Tathagata (如来藏, Tathāgatagarbha, tathāgatagarbha, The Womb of the Thus Come One). To have faith, respect, uphold, and recite this requires generating the mind of enlightenment before many Buddhas. In the Great Nirvana Sutra, it is said: 'Son of good family, if a sentient being generates the mind of enlightenment from Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, then in the time of evil, he will uphold this sutra and not slander it. Son of good family, if a sentient being generates the mind of enlightenment from Buddhas as numerous as the sands of one Ganges River, then in the time of evil, he will not slander this Dharma and will have faith in this sutra, but he will not be able to explain it to others. Son of good family, if a sentient being generates the mind of enlightenment from Buddhas as numerous as the sands of two Ganges Rivers, then in the time of evil, he will not slander this Dharma, and he will have faith, joy, uphold, recite, but he will not be able to explain it extensively to others. If a sentient being generates the mind of enlightenment from Buddhas as numerous as the sands of three Ganges Rivers, then in the time of evil, he will not slander this Dharma, and he will uphold, recite, and write it in scriptures, but although he explains it to others, he will not know its profound meaning. If a sentient being generates the mind of enlightenment from Buddhas as numerous as the sands of four Ganges Rivers, then in the time of evil, he will not slander this Dharma, and he will uphold, recite, and write it in scriptures, and he will explain only one-sixteenth of its profound meaning to others. Although he explains and teaches, he does not fully understand it. If a sentient being generates the mind of enlightenment from Buddhas as numerous as the sands of five Ganges Rivers, then in the time of evil, he will not slander this Dharma, and he will uphold, recite, write it in scriptures, and he will be able to explain eight-sixteenths of its profound meaning to others. If a sentient being generates the mind of enlightenment from Buddhas as numerous as the sands of six Ganges Rivers, then in the time of evil, he will not slander this Dharma, and he will' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
