It is like abandoning a precious wish-fulfilling jewel and instead carrying an empty husk. Third, refuting the argument that the last turning of the wheel of Dharma (末法轮) explains the Mind-Only school (唯识宗): Some say that the last turning of the wheel explains the three natures (三种自性), so it is a Mind-Only scripture and therefore definitive (了义). However, explaining the three natures does not completely fall under the category of the Mind-Only school, because the intermediate (《中观根本慧论》) and the Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra (《八千颂般若经》) also explain the three natures. As the Blessed One (世尊) said to Maitreya Bodhisattva (慈氏菩萨): 'Maitreya, a Bodhisattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom (般若波罗蜜多) and is skilled in the analysis of Dharma, should understand form (色法) in three ways. He should also understand feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness, up to the qualities of the Buddha (佛陀), in three ways, namely: this is the imputed form (遍计所执的色), this is the dependent form (依他起的色), and this is the form of suchness (实相的色).' and so on, extensively explained. Similarly, in the Five Hundred Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra (《五百颂般若经》), it is said: 'Form is without substance, is evil, is with substance,' and so on. Therefore, the last turning of the wheel does not completely belong to the Mind-Only school. Therefore, do not mistakenly believe that the last turning of the wheel is the ultimate definitive meaning, and is a Mind-Only and provisional scripture, because of seemingly reasonable reasons such as explaining the three natures, explaining the existence of reality, and explaining the eight consciousness aggregates. Furthermore, just as some people say important things when they are dying, the great Buddha (佛陀) also taught the very important last turning of the wheel when demonstrating Nirvana (涅槃), explaining the Tathagatagarbha (如来藏), which is also the reason why the last turning of the wheel and the Tathagatagarbha are definitive. Explanation of the Buddha's Intent The second point is: In this way, the Tathagatagarbha is the ultimate definitive meaning, the state realized by all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, the content explained by all scriptures, the Dharma nature, the Dharmadhatu, the Suchness, the ultimate boundary of reality, and the ultimate truth that pervades all phenomena. And the last turning of the wheel, which clearly explains the Tathagatagarbha, is also the supreme definitive scripture. This is the true intent of the great Buddha, and it is also the ultimate intent confirmed by great Bodhisattvas such as Maitreya (慈氏菩萨), and by great masters prophesied by the Buddhas such as the father and son Nagarjuna (龙树). This is as stated in the scriptures and treatises. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Through studying these, one can understand them well. Explaining the meaning of the nine similes. The second part is divided into three parts, the first of which is explaining how the nine similes are presented. As stated in the 'Ratnagotravibhāga': 'Buddha is like a lotus (padma), evil is like chaff, greed is like honey (madhu), hatred is like a bee (bhran^ga), delusion is like husk (stubna), Suchness is like essence (s/ara), gold (suvarna) is in impurity, treasure (nidhi) and sprouts are hidden in the earth, the body of the Victor (jina-ka^ya) is in small fruits and worn-out clothes (vasana), a ruler is in the womb of a wicked woman, just as there is a precious image in the earth, similarly, this element exists in sentient beings obscured by adventitious stains of affliction.' This is understood from this sutra, spoken by Maitreya. Second, explaining the reasons for the stains using nine similes. The 'Ratnagotravibhāga' states: 'Attachment, hatred, and delusion, as well as their, co-emergent intensity and habitual tendencies, the impurities abandoned on the paths of seeing and meditation, and those based on pure grounds, the nine types of stains are well explained by the similes of the lotus, bud, etc. The distinctions of the bud of near afflictions are countless and endless.' That is, the three latent tendencies of desire, hatred, and ignorance, and the four co-emergent intensities of the three poisons manifesting, plus the habitual ground included in irrational attention, making five, the two to be abandoned on the paths of seeing and meditation, making seven, and the obscurations based on the impure seven grounds, and the two obscurations based on the pure three grounds, making nine. Among these, the first three can be destroyed by wisdom that transcends the world, and the fourth can be destroyed by meditating on ugliness, etc. These four make ordinary beings impure. The fifth can be destroyed by the Victor's wisdom of enlightenment, which makes Arhats impure. The sixth can be destroyed by the path of seeing, and the seventh can be destroyed by the path of meditation. These two make the learners of ordinary beings and the learners of noble ones impure. The eighth can be destroyed by the pure three grounds, and the ninth can be destroyed by the vajra-like samadhi. These two make Bodhisattvas impure. Regarding this, the 'Ratnagotravibhāga' states: 'These stains make ordinary beings, as well as Arhats and learners, the wise ones are impure in order with four, one, two, and two.' The similarity between the stains and the similes is also explained in the 'Ratnagotravibhāga', as it says: 'Just as a lotus grows from mud, and when it appears in front, joy arises, but later there is no joy, so is the joy of attachment. Just as a bee among creatures is extremely agitated and stings like a spear, so when hatred arises, it causes suffering in the heart. Like rice, etc.'
