To dispel misfortunes, one needs to rely on special protectors. Now, the time is ripe, and the compassionate lord, Arya Avalokiteshvara, for the sake of taming sentient beings, emanates as a protector like the wish-fulfilling jewel, the king of treasures, namely, the swift-acting wisdom lord, the six-armed Mahakala. This is the one that the scholar-accomplisher Khyungpo Naljor offered seven gold coins to Maitripa, the master of India, and said, 'We Tibetans have little merit, so please grant us a practice that quickly accomplishes wealth, is powerful, and has great signs.' Maitripa said, 'This is also called the Wish-Fulfilling Lord, also called the Wooden Pile Lord, also called the Great Compassionate Lord, also called the Six-Armed Wisdom Lord.' 'He protects from the terrors of the bardo, subdues the three—gods, demons, and humans, swiftly brings increase in people, wealth, and food, and destroys all enemies, accomplishing all common and supreme attainments within months and years.' He kindly said. When the lama asked from whom he had heard this, Maitripa said, 'I heard it from Shawaripa.' Shawaripa was practicing in the great charnel ground of Sitavana. When he heard the great sound of the damaru and bell in the sky, he saw this Wisdom Lord appear and say, 'Son of lineage, take up this practice!' It is said that Shawaripa also wrote down the practice. Furthermore, in the past, in a place called the Great Inexhaustible Dark Charnel Ground, the teacher Dhana Sanskrita directly saw this Wisdom Lord. He offered the life mantras of the retinue of Yakshas and promised to accomplish all activities. That lama gave this to Rahula Gupta Vajra, who came to transmit the oral instructions and gave them to Khyungpo. From Khyungpo to the root lama, the lineage has been unbroken, so please have unwavering faith in it. Such is the permission of the Wisdom Lord. The preliminary activities of the teacher have been well completed. The main part is the order of activities common to the teacher and student, first is the preliminary refuge and bodhicitta: In the space in front, the lama and the Three Jewels, dakinis, and dharma protectors are present as if in person. In their presence, you should think that you take refuge until you attain enlightenment. Please repeat after me.
