The one-faced, two-armed Black Protector, the right hand plays the skull drum, the left holds a skull cup filled with blood. Behind the Protector is Shinje Trakkira-ja, who arises from the 'ཏྲཾ་' (Tibetan) syllable, dark black in color, one face, two arms, the right hand brandishing a noose of intestines, the left hand holding a threatening mudra with fire blazing at the tip of the finger. To the left of the goddess is the black Dushta Protector Trakshad, who arises from the 'ཧཱུྃ' (Tibetan) syllable, the right hand brandishing a red wooden stick, the left hand smelling a sandalwood stick. He wears a blue-edged cloak and rides a black horse with white hind legs. All four are fearsome, baring their teeth, with beards, eyebrows, and hair standing on end, yellowish-brown in color. Their three eyes are red and rolling, gazing with hatred at enemies and obstacles. Adorned with the ornaments of wrathful deities, they dwell amidst a blazing fire of wisdom. Outside of these are the ten directional protectors, the eight great gods, the eight great nagas, the eight great planets, the four world-kings, the twenty-eight constellations, and the nine great terrifiers, totaling seventy-five protectors of the Tsang lineage and their retinues, as well as the entire assembly of oath-bound ones, filling the earth and sky. At the crown of the head of all the main deities and their retinues is a white 'ཨོཾ' (Tibetan, Devanagari: ओम्, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal meaning: Om), at the throat is a red 'ཨཱཿ' (Tibetan, Devanagari: आः, Romanized Sanskrit: āḥ, Literal meaning: Ah), and at the heart is a blue 'ཧཱུྃ' (Tibetan, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal meaning: Hung). From the 'ཧཱུྃ' (Tibetan, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal meaning: Hung) syllable at the heart of both oneself and the visualized deity in front, rays of light emanate, inviting the glorious Great Black One and his retinue from the charnel grounds of the east and south, from beneath the single-stemmed sandalwood tree. Recite 'ཨོཾ་བཛྲ་ས་མཱ་ཛཱ།' (Tibetan, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ vajra samāja, Literal meaning: Om Vajra Samaja) while ringing the bell, and with the faith and commitment of 'ཧཱུྃ' (Tibetan, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal meaning: Hung): 'Come forth, assembly of Mahakala! As you have promised and vowed, please descend to this place!' And 'Kṣetrapāla (Tibetan, Devanagari: क्षेत्रपाल, Romanized Sanskrit: kṣetrapāla, Literal meaning: Field Protector) and other retinues of yaksha attendants, oath-bound ones who have vowed to protect the Dharma, please descend!' Invite them by reciting 'ཨོཾ་ཤྲཱི་མཧཱ་ཀཱ་ལ་ཡཱེ་མཧཱ་ཀཱ་ལི་དེ་ཝི་ཡཀྵ་ས་པཱ་རི་ཝ་རེ་ཨི་ཧྱེ་ཧི་' (Tibetan, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ śrī mahākālāya mahākālī devī yakṣa sapārivāre ihyehi, Literal meaning: Om Shri Mahakala Mahakali Devi Yaksha Sapariware Ihyehi), and dissolve them into the visualized deity in front by reciting 'ཛ་ཧཱུྃ་བཾ་ཧོ་' (Tibetan, Romanized Sanskrit: dza hūṃ baṃ ho, Literal meaning: Dza Hum Bam Ho). Offer the offerings, starting with water and ending with music, by reciting 'ཨོཾ་ཤྲཱི་མཧཱ་ཀཱ་ལ་ས་པཱ་རི་ཝ་རེ་' (Tibetan, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ śrī mahākāla sapārivāre, Literal meaning: Om Shri Mahakala Sapariware) before each offering. Offer the inner offering by reciting 'ཨོཾ་ཤྲཱི་མཧཱ་ཀཱ་ལ་ཡེ་ས་པཱ་རི་ཝ་རེ་ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ' (Tibetan, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ śrī mahākālāya sapārivāre oṃ āḥ hūṃ, Literal meaning: Om Shri Mahakala Sapariware Om Ah Hum). Six-armed Mahakala, fearsome form, the form of the body, endlessly blazing, utterly adorned with charnel ground objects, etc. The sound of speech, endlessly blazing, fills the three thousand worlds with the sound of 'ཧཱུྃ' (Tibetan, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal meaning: Hung) and 'ཕཊ' (Tibetan, Devanagari: फट्, Romanized Sanskrit: phaṭ, Literal meaning: Phat). The pure mind, endlessly blazing, although free from elaboration, manifests in various forms. Through the doors of body, speech, and mind, I praise you!' Thus praise. Then focus on the torma of the yidam. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
