As it is said in the scriptures: 'Eliminating all obscurations is the supreme Dharma that dispels suffering.' Here, it is especially necessary to recognize the two, cessation and the path. As it is said in the Ratnagotravibhāga: 'That which is free from attachment by what, that which possesses the characteristics of the two truths is Dharma.' Among the two, cessation and the path, this text mainly explains the truth of the path, while cessation is implied. The path has two characteristics: abandoning what is to be abandoned and manifesting qualities. The first is abandoning what is to be abandoned, which is further divided into abandoning the obscuration of knowledge and abandoning the obscuration of afflictions. The former is like 'dispelling the darkness of ignorance,' and the latter is like 'the method of extracting the latent poisonous arrow.' These imply the two cessations of liberation from the obscurations of attachment. The characteristic of manifesting qualities has two aspects: understanding the nature of Dharma and realizing non-abiding Nirvana. These are like 'the Dharma that opens the eyes of wisdom of all three realms.' The three realms here refer to the three vehicles of the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Mahayana. Because after hearing the sacred Dharma, the lineages of these three types of beings are awakened, thereby opening the eyes of wisdom corresponding to their respective vehicles. Both characteristics of qualities are indicated by the word 'Dharma' itself. The special term 'Dharma' also refers to Nirvana, as it is said in the Abhidharmakośa: 'Taking refuge in Nirvana.' And the main one among these is non-abiding Nirvana. Therefore, from the faith of seeing the qualities of the Dharma, joy arises in the faith of the qualities of the Sangha, because the qualities of the Dharma and the Sangha converge on the same meaning. As it is said in the Samadhiraja Sutra: 'The Sangha are those who speak the Dharma, practice the Dharma, receive the Dharma, the field of Dharma, the holders of the Dharma, those who rely on the Dharma, those who offer to the Dharma, those who perform the activities of the Dharma, those who are the sphere of practice of the Dharma, those who are fully endowed with the practice of the Dharma.' Starting from 'The recollection of the Bodhisattva Sangha is like this.' Considering this meaning, the qualities of both the Dharma and the Sangha are expressed through 'opening the eyes of wisdom.' Therefore, the second line is: 'I prostrate to that.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Homage to all the non-returning Sangha of the Sugata's sons. Who is the performer? The head. What is the time? It is continuous and eternal. The difference in merit lies in realization and liberation. First, in terms of realization, there is a difference in essence and motivation. The first is the opening of the eye of wisdom, which is the direct seeing of selflessness. This is further divided into knowing reality as it is and knowing reality in its extent. The former is further divided into the selflessness of persons and the selflessness of phenomena. The second is, 'The mind is led by great compassion.' This indicates the merit of realization, and also implies the merit of liberation. As stated in the Ratnagotravibhāga: 'Being free from the two obscurations, its cause is the two wisdoms.' In short, the noble Bodhisattvas who possess excellent means and wisdom are referred to here as the Sangha. Second, the limb of confessing sins includes confessing past deeds and taking vows not to commit them in the future. The first is confession. What is the object of confession? It is revolving in the six realms of beings. The performer is myself, regarding non-virtuous things, whether a little was done in the past and present, or allowing it to be done in the future, or whatever others have done and will do, and oneself rejoices in it, all of these must be confessed. How to confess? With the Buddhas as witnesses, in their presence, generate a feeling of regret for the sins committed in the past. Specifically, first prostrate to the Three Jewels, the meaning of confessing sins lies in, with them as witnesses, feeling regret for what was done in the past, and vowing not to do it again in the future. As stated in the Sutra of the Three Heaps: 'In all the worlds such as these, all the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones who reside, I request the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, to consider me.' And 'Confess in the presence of those who know and see.' As stated in the Bodhicaryāvatāra: 'Before the Protectors, with palms joined in fear of suffering, bowing again and again with sincerity, I confess all of these.' This is in accordance with that. Second, can sins be purified merely by regretting and confessing? Not only that, but also vowing not to commit them again in the future. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
