The Collected Teachings of the Great Scholar Shakya Chokden skc158, Commentary on the Treatise 'Seventy Aspiration Prayers,' named 'The Melodious Sound of Benefit for Others'. Commentary on the Treatise 'Seventy Aspiration Prayers,' named 'The Melodious Sound of Benefit for Others'. Homage to Mañjuśrī! Commentary on the Treatise 'Seventy Aspiration Prayers,' I prostrate to Mañjuśrī! The author's past aspirations are like golden rain, settling securely in the heart-lake of Brahmā and Indra, the roots of the two accumulations grow into a wish-fulfilling tree, ripening at the top, I prostrate to that top! The sun of wisdom, free from all obscurations, constantly shines in the vast sky of benefiting beings, the helmsman with a hundred kinds of superior intentions, what he guides is the seven-horsed aspiration prayer. After praising and vowing to compose, to explain this treatise, there are three meanings: the purpose, the summary, and the words. First, there are two: the purpose of this treatise itself, and the meaning derived from it. The first is to understand how to generate the mind of enlightenment and how to practice aspiration prayers in accordance with it. Second, there are two: how to practice aspiration prayers, and the aspiration prayer itself. The first is that one must first aspire to attain perfect enlightenment, as it is said in the *Bodhisattvabhumi*: 'The best of the aspiration prayers of the Bodhisattvas is the generation of the mind [of enlightenment].' And as it says in the *Don Sal*: 'Aspiration prayer is what is sought, that is, the desire for perfect and complete enlightenment.' Similarly, after that, one must aspire not to forget that very mind of enlightenment, as it says: 'May the mind of enlightenment never be forgotten.' And as it says in the *Mañjuśrīkṣetraguṇavyūha Sūtra*: 'The Tathāgata Akṣobhya, when he was a Bodhisattva in the past, said these words: If I generate the mind of enlightenment in all lifetimes, if not, then I will have deceived all the Buddhas. Therefore, Śāriputra, one should learn from the example of the Bodhisattva Akṣobhya.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, in order to prevent them from incurring downfalls in future lives that contradict the bodhisattva's training, as stated in the Compendium of Trainings: 'Since one has taken the vows for all times, one should not even worry about incurring downfalls in future lives,' because it is in this very sutra that the aspiration of Akshobhya (不动如来) is given. Therefore, achieving such an aspiration of not forgetting the mind of enlightenment is not difficult, as stated in the sutra: 'All phenomena are according to conditions, they abide thoroughly in the root of intention. Whatever aspiration one makes, its fruit will surely arise.' Thus. The aspiration made by a person who possesses morality will inevitably be fulfilled, as stated in the Secret Sutra of the Tathagatas: 'One who possesses morality, their thought is accomplished, their pursuit is accomplished, and their aspiration is accomplished.' Therefore, from the moment of generating the aspiration, one must aspire to engage in all the vast practices of a bodhisattva, as it says: 'The distinctions of the aspiration for the practice of enlightenment, through excellent conduct, having become enlightened in enlightenment, may I completely perfect all of them.' So, what is excellent conduct? It is studying the ten pāramitās (梵文:Pāramitā,波罗蜜多,to the other shore). Before entering the bhūmi (地,grounds), it is aspiring to study, and after entering, it is becoming one who is studying those subjects. Therefore, here, for the mind that seeks perfect enlightenment, it is called 'aspiration for the practice of enlightenment,' and aspiring to study the six perfections for the sake of that enlightenment is called 'aspiration for excellent conduct,' and the one who is studying is called 'excellent conduct.' So, is the main goal to be pursued by those who generate the Mahāyāna (大乘) mind only perfect enlightenment? It is not so, as it says: 'Generating the mind is for the sake of others.' Therefore, it is solely for the benefit of others. Thus, the mind that seeks perfect enlightenment solely for the benefit of others is called 'aspiration bodhicitta (菩提心),' and the mind that studies the benefit of others for the sake of enlightenment is called 'entering bodhicitta,' and the one who has these minds is called a 'bodhisattva.' Second, the aspiration itself is explained, from the aspects of essence, cause, result, function, and possession, which will be explained through five aspects. First is, the sutra pitaka (经藏). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
