Its meaning is: Although without moving from the Dharmadhatu (chos kyi dbyings), effortlessly manifesting the two form bodies for the benefit of others, it should be understood that this is entirely due to the power of aspiration (smon lam). Fourth, regarding the function, the Ornament of the Sutras (mdo sde'i rgyan) says: 'It perfectly accomplishes the benefit of oneself and others.' That is to say, with the aspiration focused on perfect Bodhi, one accomplishes one's own benefit, and with the aspiration focused on benefiting others, one accomplishes the benefit of others. As it is said in the Mother Sutra (yum gyi mdo): 'Those who wish to fully awaken to perfect enlightenment in all things and in all ways should study the Mother.' It also says: 'Those who wish to place all sentient beings in Nirvana according to their respective capacities should study the Mother.' The second aspiration, also named 'Aspiration for Bodhisattva Conduct,' is the dedication of merit to great Bodhi, which is a special means of guarding merit and has the necessity of making the roots of virtue inexhaustible. As stated in the Sutra Taught by Inexhaustible Intelligence (blo gros mi zad pas bstan pa'i mdo): 'Thus, the roots of virtue dedicated to Bodhi will never be exhausted in the intermediate state until one sits at the heart of Bodhi.' Venerable Shariputra, for example, a drop of water falling into the great ocean will not be exhausted until the end of the kalpa.' Also, as stated in the Compendium of Trainings (bslab btus): 'Thus, the concise method of guarding merit is to dedicate all roots of virtue to Bodhi.' Fifth, regarding the qualities possessed: It includes how many qualities the Aspiration of Excellent Conduct (bzang po spyod pa'i smon lam) possesses, and the special qualities of each. First, it is divided into two points: the merit of generating faith after hearing this aspiration, and the benefit of practicing it properly after generating faith. The first point, as the sutra says: 'All the boundless Buddha-fields in the ten directions, adorned with jewels, offered to the Buddhas, the supreme happiness of gods and humans, offered for as many kalpas as there are dust particles in the fields, compared to that, whoever hears this King of Dedication, and rejoices in following the supreme Bodhi, even generating faith just once, this will become the supreme and excellent merit.' The second point is divided into two: temporary benefits and ultimate benefits. Temporary benefits are further divided into two: the merit of abandoning bad rebirths and the merit of obtaining higher rebirths. The merit of abandoning bad rebirths is further divided into two: the ability to abandon the cause of sin and the merit of being liberated from the result of suffering. The first point, as the sutra says: 'All the sins of the five heinous crimes,' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If someone, due to ignorance, commits evil deeds, if they recite this 'Samantabhadra's Conduct and Vows,' they will quickly and thoroughly purify all their sins. The second part contains two points: obtaining the merits of the heavenly realms and obtaining the benefits of the Dharma from them. The first point is, as it is said in the scripture: 'Wisdom, form, features, lineage, and complexion will all be complete.' The second part contains two points: encountering virtuous friends and obtaining benefits from them. The first point is, as it is said in the scripture: 'He will abandon bad friends and quickly see Amitabha The second part contains two points: actual benefits and its advantages. The first point is, as it is said in the scripture: 'They are said to have obtained the best harvest.' The second part contains two points: the fulfillment of favorable conditions and not being overcome by adverse conditions. The first point is, as it is said in the scripture: 'They live happily, and everything goes well in this life.' and 'They will be worshiped in all three realms.' The ultimate benefits contain two points: constantly abiding in samsara like Samantabhadra (普贤菩萨) and quickly attaining Buddhahood like Maitreya (慈氏菩萨). The first point is, 'They will soon become like Samantabhadra.' The second point is, 'He will quickly go to the Bodhi tree, abide there for the benefit of sentient beings, attain enlightenment, and turn the wheel of Dharma.' All these explanations must acknowledge the merits of the endless vows of generating the supreme Bodhicitta and vowing to study for the benefit of others. Therefore, it is given the name 'Samantabhadra's Conduct and Vows.' Secondly, the special merits of each vow are like the special features of the past vows of the Bhagavan Amitabha (世尊阿弥陀佛), and the special features of the past vows of the Seven Tathagatas (七如来). When they were Bodhisattvas in the past, they vowed that the realms where they would attain Buddhahood would be more special than other realms, which are described in their respective scriptures. Furthermore, sentient beings who hear the name of the Buddha who attained Buddhahood by the Bodhisattva himself will not be reborn as women, etc. These immeasurable merits are due to their vow not to attain Buddhahood until these merits are fulfilled, and their commitment to study the causes of these merits. Ultimately, through the power of completion, as it is said in the scripture: 'The name of the Tathagata (如来) is well heard.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
